Bucs women defeat #7 Brookdale

LYNCROFT-After 13 tries, the women’s basketball team has finally defeated the Brookdale Jersey Blues.  The Bucs won 73-59 in Lyncroft on Saturday, ending a streak which has lasted more years than anyone cares to remember.

Barbara Gedeon scored 20 points, and had 10 rebounds.  She is currently ranked 11th in the nation in scoring.  Dana Donahue had 15 points, and added 6 assists.

The Bucs are off until November 17th, when they play at Camden County College.

Toombs' 47 not enough as Passaic wins 89-85

Dafawn Toombs scored a career high 47 points, but the Bucs' rally fell short as they lost to Passaic 89-85 on Saturday.

The Bucs had the ball trailing 88-85 with 8 seconds remaining but Sha'mar Dixon's 3-point attempt was off the mark.  Toombs led the 2nd half comeback with 32 points, which set a school record.  Laquay Rooks had 15 and Lamar James had 10 for the Bucs who drop to 0-5 on the season.

Santiago Scores 31 as Bucs defeat Bucks

Selena Santiago notched a triple-double and scored 31 points as the Bucs defeated Bucks County Community College 82-30 in women's basketball on Tuesday night.  Santiago also tallied 12 assists and had 10 steals in the victory.  Selena's night may be an all-time record for women's basketball.  Assistant AD Mike Rennick is searching the archives to see if this is the all-time record. 

Barbara Gedeon scored 19 and Tuesday Cook had 13 for the Bucs, who are now 1-0 and travel to Montgomery on Thursday night.

Men's Basketball Preview 2014-2015 (Quick Version)

Men's basketball looks to qualify for the Region 19 playoffs for the 4th consecutive season.  Andrew Fields' coached teams have all made the playoffs and Fields hopes to notch his 50th career victory this season as well.

Cape Atlantic League high school fans will know many of this year's squad.  Laquay Rooks (Atlantic City) is expected to be a top scorer. Rooks was part of the Atlantic City HS state champs team from 2012-13.  Dafawn Toombs (Oakcrest), and Sha'mar Dixon (Holy Spirit) are the main three-point threats.  Mbiatke Andy (Absegami), who played soccer for the Bucs in 2012, will start at center.  Jason Cervi (Oakcrest) will start at power forward.

 Dashawn Hendricks (CharterTech), Joe Eberhart (Absegami), Lamar James (Oakcrest) will contribute scoring off the bench.  Haj Smith (EHT), Joe Brickley (Oakcrest), and Najee Wimbish will also see plenty of action this season.

Basketball Season Opens Tonight

The 2014-2015 NJCAA basketball season gets underway tonight as both Bucs teams make road trips.  The women are in action at Bucks County Community College at 6 PM tonight. 

The Bucs will likely start five freshmen tonight, as the team has just one returning player (Michell Joga) from last year's team, which went 1-19.  Barbara Gedeon (Absegami) is one of the players to watch this season. The 5-11 forward originally came to Atlantic Cape to play volleyball.  However, that sport was dropped, so Gedeon will play forward for the Bucs.  Tuesday Cook (Millville) will start at center.  The remaining starters will be Nairobi Hathaway (Atlantic City), Selena Santiago (EHT) and Geneya Vasquez (Cedar Creek).  Michell Joga (Atlantic City) and Tashera Donaldson (EHT) will come off the bench.

Men Clinch Region 19 Playoff Spot

The men's basketball team clinched the Region 19 playoffs for the third straight year with back-to-back wins over Ocean County College this week.  Nate Evans averaged 24 points for the week, as the Bucs rebounded from a loss to the Community College of Philadelphia on Tuesday.

Rob Gouldey was the key player on Saturday, scoring 18 points in the first half and 21 overall in just 20 minutes of play. 

The Bucs host Cumberland on Tuesday, which is Sophomore Night.  The SGA is also having a White Out Night, giving t-shirts out to the first 100 Atlantic Cape students at each game.

Union defeats Bucs 83-59

Saturday's Region 19 showdown proved to be no contest as the Union County College Owls ran rampant over the visiting Bucs 83-59.  Shaquille Mitchell scored 23 to lead Union (6-3), who solidified their place among the top teams in the GSAC and are now 4-2 in the GSAC.  The Bucs (4-3) must now regroup as they have lost 3 out of their last 4 and are now 3-3 in the GSAC.

Shawn Wilson was the lone bright spot for Atlantic Cape, scoring 26.  No other Buc could make it into double figures.

The Bucs play Ocean at home tomorrow, Tuesday in a doubleheader.  The men play the first game at 5 PM, followed by the women's game at 7 PM.  Ocean's men are 1-4 and the women's team is 1-3.
