Preview: Men's & Women's basketball versus Brookdale
The Bucs travel to Monmouth County tonight to play the Brookdale Jersey Blues in a basketball doubleheader. The men's team is looking to continue their streak of good fortune; having won two of their last three. Their only loss last week coming on a buzzer beater shot at Cumberland.
The men are 2-7 overall, and 2-5 in the GSAC. The Bucs will certainly need a win this week against Brookdale or Middlesex if they hope to get to .500 and qualify for the Region playoffs. Wins versus Brookdale are hard to come by, and the Bucs have not won at Brookdale in more than 10 years. Last year, the Jersey Blues walloped the Bucs 101-76. This might be the year, however, as the Jersey Blues are 9th in the Region and just 3-6 overall.
Brookdale is led by Isaiah Johnson (20.0 PPG). The Bucs are led by their high-scoring back court tandem of Dafawn Toombs and Laquay Rooks. Toombs is averaging 25.2 PPG and Rooks is averaging 19.4.
The men are playing first tonight. Tip-off is at 5 PM.
The Atlantic Cape hope to snap an 11 game losing streak versus Brookdale; covering 5 years. Selena Santiago (23.8 PPG) is the Bucs' top scorer. Barb Gedeon and Tuesday Cook are both averaging 10 plus rebounds per game.
Nairobi Hathaway (pictured below) has returned after a two-game absence, but the Bucs will be without the services of freshman guard Geneya Vasquez until early January.
Game time for the women's game is at 7 PM. Both games are at Brookdale's beautiful Robert Collins Arena.
