Rare c. 1880 Aesthetic Movement Ornamental House by John Shiflet Via Flickr: Outside of the missing turned porch posts, this house reflects the Aesthetic Movement tastes of the early 1880's. It was an artistic movement imported from England with an emphasis on the natural world of plants and animals incorporated in sometimes abstract artistic ways as seen here in the stylized Sunflower motifs. Very few houses of this type remain but they were uncommon even when they were popular, (1875-1885)
