The zen space
I went to visit my Grandparents today & decided to walk the long way around the cemetery. I tend to take pictures of things I find interesting there. These are two of the pictures I took & the little story behind them. Towards the middle of my walk I saw something gold peeking out of the bushes. I was surprised to find it at all because it was tucked away, almost hidden by the tall bushes that surrounded it. Its a tall structure in person & is surrounded by foliage, which definitely creates a peaceful environment. This particular cemetery seems to be predominantly Christian/Catholic, judging off of all of the flying Jesus & Angel statues that are literally everywhere, so I was very surprised to see the golden Budda statue at all. Praying in front of a Budda statue is said to help bring peace of mind &, even though I didn't pray in front of it, I did feel more peaceful. After a while I started walking again, I randomly stopped in front of another grave & saw that there was a broken stone with the word "peace" engraved on it. As you can see, it was worn & battered looking, no doubt from all the storms here in Florida, but it really struck me because it was broken. In my mind it was like peace itself had been broken. At least that's the impact it had on me later as I was comparing these photos side by side. It was a really engrossing experience to see two contrasting images of peace - one completely serene & the other completely distressing.
