After the offerings to our ancestors, we enjoy Luóhàn cài which is similar to Buddha's Delight often eaten by Buddhists on the first day of Chinese New Year. It stems from the old Buddhist practice that one should maintain a vegetarian diet in the first five days of the new year, as a form of self-purification. There are 10 mandatory ingredients in ours but my Mother has been known to add up to 30!
