Buddy DeFranco: An Interview
Buddy De Franco was one of the most overlooked musicians in jazz. His facility and articulation on clarinet was astonishing. And his conception and improvising skills remained fresh throughout his career. His quartet with Sonny Clark was the focus of one of the earliest Mosaic sets. JazzProfiles has reprinted Steve Voce’s extensive 1982 Jazz Journal interview with Buddy, with fascinating stories of the early years and beyond. By the way, Buddy was as warm and friendly and generous as he was innovative and virtuosic.
