I made another video of me playing guitar. This time I covered Buddy Orange by Vincent Cyr. Let me know if you like it…Or hate it, Either one is fine.

Maybe it’s because it’s 3am and I might be half asleep (I don’t think so), but this song is incredibly calming. Thanks, Cyr.

When anxiety threatens to pull me under, this is my go-to song. I’m so glad Cyr uploaded a new version, and it came at a time when I really needed it. I owe Cyr and this song so so so much.
The orignal version of Buddy Orange, played by Vincent Cyr, is a very calm and peaceful song. The simplicity of the tune and the video gave it a very relaxing feeling. It’s a very intimate song, leaving the audience feeling a sad kind of happy, as well as very connected with Cyr. The constant change in melody fits our constant shift in mood, the higher, faster parts making us happy, and the low and slow parts making us sad, creating a sing that is so full of emotion, pouring itself into us.
The overall tone from the original is very bittersweet. The speed and simplicity do a lot to express the emotions felt by Cyr. The monochromatic color scheme of the video itself adds a dramatic feeling, making his own emotions a little bit more intense. His facial expression, though generally neutral, shows a hint of sadness, even when he smiles. The amount of effort that must have gone into writing the piece shows that it has a deeper meaning than just random guitar playing.
The remix of Buddy Orange, made by WP Purple, has a bit more of an active tone, with a lot more production put into it. There are several instruments used in this version compared to the one guitar in the original. There is an echo of a vinyl scratch, as well as a constant drum beat used to transition between the two different melodies in the song.
The tone of this remix changes from the tone of the original. The amount of production takes the sadness out of the song, and the overall bittersweet feeling disappears, leaving us feeling happy and light. The lack of video causes us to listen closely to the music, hearing every detail and feeling every emotion that comes through to us.
Comparing the two, you can tell that the original has more feeling behind it, though both share a similar theme of calmness. A theme of relaxation. Buddy Orange is a song you can listen to when you need to feel at peace with the world, and with yourself. It’s short and it’s beautiful, and though its simple, it’s relatable. You feel the emotions with Vincent Cyr, and that’s the most amaing part.
Check it out! It’s such a good song. ---> Buddy Orange
