Repost @mncause4paws Each New Day is a Celebration of Light and Life for Buddy💗 Buddy's days at Mississippi State are much different now. His eyes are no longer covered with heavy bandages. He can see and he is loving every minute of his new life. Buddy's whole personality has changed since seeing the light of day. He is happy and playful and walking the halls of the hospital with a great big ball in his mouth. He loves balls. He carries them around so everyone can see them😁 He has been feeling so well, we gave the approval to go ahead with his neuter surgery.😕 He came it thru with flying colors. And we made the decision to go ahead and start the protocol for his heartworm treatment. Buddy will be completing his heartworm treatment while under the care of Dr. Swanson. We want everything to be on go when he is ready to leave Mississippi State. We want him to be strong and healthy for his future family and we are doing everything we can to make that happen. As far as Buddy's eyes, his doctors felt it was best, to give his eyes a rest for awhile. More time to heal before any more procedures are done on his eyelids. They are still a work in progress but we will get there. Dr. Swanson isn't going to settle for less. I have to say thank you again to the thousands and thousands of people that have prayed for Buddy. Buddy's last real memory of vision was in the final horrific moments just before his face was set on fire by a child. In the blink of an eye, his whole life changed. Because of the severity of his injuries, Buddy has spent the last 3 and a half months in total darkness due to the bandages to protect his wounds. It has been a very big day for Buddy and his extraordinary caregivers at Mississippi State College of Veterinary Medicine. For the first time, Buddy's bandages were changed without him being heavily sedated. His eyes were actually open and he was very aware. This photo captures that very moment for all of Buddy's Prayers Warriors and for all our supporters that donated so generously to his care. It was important to me that our Tunica Humane Society family be the first to see Buddy's miraculous healing. If you had seen what I have seen over the last few months, crying myself to sleep many nights, you would truly understand how far Buddy has come in his journey back to life. How beautiful he looks today. In answer to your thousands and thousands of prayers, YES, Buddy can still see. As Dr. Swanson described to me the moment Buddy gazed into her eyes for the first time, the moment he immediately jumped up on his caregivers to thank them for saving him... I was completely overcome with emotion and gratitude for all that was done to save him from the horrible abuse he endured. Buddy still needs some work on his eyelids, so that they blink properly and will better protect his eyes. And he is still healing in many ways. He will continue to stay at Mississippi State under Dr. Swanson's care until we are comfortable bringing him back to the Tunica Humane Society. But today was a huge turning point for this precious yellow lab. He can see again and his heart is happy... He suffered from third- and fourth-degree burns on his forehead and ears. The remainder of his face was engulfed in second-degree burns. The Labrador Retriever received five skin grafts and now is waiting for one small spot between his eyes to heal. She explained Buddy will need extensive care for the rest of his life, but believes that extra care will be well worth it to a family looking to give Buddy his new home. “He’s a young dog. He’s got a long life ahead of him.” Swanson said Buddy is 90% healed. At best case scenario, she hopes to get the resilient dog back to the Tunica Humane Society (@tunicahumanesociety) by August to rejoin his long-lost pal Snoop. #Repost @mncause4paws @download.ins --- As I stated I will continue to update everyone on Buddy💗🐾 I just received these new pictures of Buddy from Mississippi State. He was out enjoying a morning walk when they were taken. He continues to improve every day. It is our plan to leave Buddy under the care of Dr. Swanson at Mississippi State until his wounds are completely healed. He still has a very small area in the middle of his brow that isn't 100% healed. And his eyelids still have a ways to go to protect his eyes the way they should. We are hoping some time in early August, Buddy will be ready to leave the hospital and join us at the Tunica Humane Society. Buddy has undergone a series of 5 skin grafts. Now that his bandages aren't so restrictive, you can see the new skin on his snout. It's beautiful pink and healthy. Now that his ears are loose from the bandages, he is much happier and more playful. I am sure he is feeling so much joy as he slowly gets his life back to normal. He will soon have been in the hospital 3 months. We look forward to the day we can bring Buddy home to his THS family. And to all of you, that have prayed for him and supported him from the very beginning. It will be a glorious day when Buddy sees his old friend, Snoop. Snoop is waiting in the wings to welcome his constant companion back. It is very important to us to get to know Buddy on a personal level before we make any decisions about where he will live out his life. So the plan is for him to spend some time in our care before any decisions are made about his forever family. If all goes well, we hope to adopt Buddy and Snoop out together. Stay tuned...
