A hardy, deciduous shrub, Ribes aureum (clove current, golden currant, buffalo currant, Missouri currant) is native to the western United States. The yellow flowers are followed by long strings of dark, edible berries. This species can host the fungus white pine blister rust which attacks pines and so is remove from some forests.

Golden Currant (Ribes aureum)
Along with Lilacs, Golden Currant is one of my favorite plants of Spring. The clove scent of the flowers is wonderful and I can’t wait for my plant to get large and produce even more flowers.
