This is a picture from when my Dad was an Iron Worker and was working on the project to raise the roof on the Buffalo Memorial Auditorium where the @buffalosabres played until 1996. He is standing on the steel beam on the top right. It’s a great shot as was on exhibit at Albright Knox a few years ago. (I will find out who took the picture and posy later for proper credit) I have been a fan since I was 5 years old. I worked in concessions at the Aud from 1989 to 1994 while I was in College and saw some incredible hockey games. I worked in the Oranges where I also had to play bouncer for a bunch of little older ladies who made the place run. I was 19 and they loved working with me and me with them. I watched so many games from the SRO spots at the top of the Aud. I also worked in the Reds as a Pizza guy, and in The Lounge as a Roast Beef Carver and Fried Bologna sandwich cook. Kent Hull and Will Wolford used to come down to visit me for fried bologna sandwiches and would hang out and talk. They happened to be friends of the family and when they came with their wives their wives would come down and hang out and talk during the games. I remember seeing Perrault, Andreychuck, Housley, Playfair, Mogilny, LaFontaine, Malarchuk, Hawerchuk, Ray, May, etc. I remember working with “The Earl of Bud” and Conehead and going for beers after the game with my friends I worked with. I remember the Sabres being in the playoffs and sweeping the Bruins the losing to Montreal and Roy in 4 straight (all 1 pt games and 3 OT games). Welcome to The Erie County Fair in Hamburg, NY. I have been going to the fair since I was a kid and spent many birthdays either visiting and later working at the fair. Now I take my kids and they really love it. The Erie County Agricultural Society annually produces the @eriecountyfair . The Society is the oldest civic organization in Western New York, established in 1819. The basic purpose of the Erie County Agricultural Society, sponsor of the Erie County Fair, is to preserve and enhance, by educational endeavors, the agricultural and historical legacy of New York State to and to promote and showcase the community's agricultural traditions, talents, diversity and heritage. The attendance for the Fair has a 5 year average of over 1.1 million guests. James E. Strates Shows has played the fair since 1924 and still provides the midway with approximately 70 rides and 100 games. The Strates Midway is the only railroad carnival operating in the US. The 61 car train travels over 6,500 miles and to 16 cities each and every season. The Erie County Fair has been held every year since 1841 with the exception of 1943, which was canceled because of World War II. The Erie County Fair became the country’s largest county fair for the first time in 1970, with an attendance of 600,960. This weekend we visited the Buffalo Naval and Military Park and Canalside on the Buffalo Waterfront. This weekend was also the first Asian Festival in Buffalo that day at Canalside as well. There are so many festivals and summer events in Buffalo, sometimes 3-4 every weekend. It is so great to see. Also, the Buffalo Waterfront has changed immensely for the better since I was a kid. It is great to see the beauty of the area finally be realized so that my kids can enjoy it. Summers in Buffalo are amazing and a real treat.
