Past, Blast From
I was sharking around on the Wayback Machine this evening and making sure I have all the BtVS script files saved, since Buffyworld has finally gone down completely. While I was saving the few I didn't already have, I came across a couple of chat transcripts from February 2001, recording the discussions that the little group of spoiler ninjas I belonged to had over the leaked scripts a couple of the members had access to. The two chats I recorded were about Lies My Parents Told Me and Dirty Girls, and they're a fascinating snapshot of Spike/Spuffy fandom at the time. (To wit, we were all REALLY cranky, but not nearly as cranky as the Ducks were.)
I really wish I could clean these up and post them somewhere, with the names of the participants redacted, but without the permission of said participants, I don't think I could do that. (And there's zero chance I could contact them all at this late date.) Past Me doesn't say anything too embarrassing to Present Me, but a couple of the other people involved get rather vitriolic in places, and even though most of them are long gone from fandom, I don't want to post anything that would embarrass them or misrepresent their current views. We were all mad back then.
Still, it's a wild read. There are all kinds of casual references to fans and boards and feuds I'd almost forgotten. And we had all kinds of speculation about how Season 7 would end, some of it eerily prescient, some of it painfully wrong.
I'm also wondering if any of the remaining boards or archives would be willing to host the script files now that Buffyworld's gone. I know tons of people besides me have them saved.
