Do you have any good Tim recs (comics or fics either is fine) you’ve read lately? Doesn’t need to be new stuff either I’m just desperate for content lately since Tim left in Batman #6 🙈

Absolutely!! No comics unfortunately, since I haven't been reading much of them lately, but I definitely have some fics!

shifting feathers by the_star_catcher - Introspective and melancholy. Tim is a changeling and can't remember what he looks like. Not a happy ending. One-shot.

red sun rises like an early warning by the_star_catcher - Tim dies in an accident shortly after Jason does, and tries to become Robin regardless. Ongoing.

just lowering your expectations by the_star_catcher - Tim's parents die while at a dig site, and no-one notices. He tries to make sure no-one finds out. At least he has a cat. Ongoing.

(the_star_catcher in general has some INCREDIBLE Tim works.)

Something Next to Normal by @wolfjackle-creates - Tim is enlisted to do the lighting for the musical 'Next to Normal' at school. Alfred supports him. Beautiful and painful. A rare parental!Alfred fic. Complete.

equivalent exchange series by scribblemetimbers - This series has fundamentally changed me. Tim makes a deal with a demon to bring Jason back. Nothing goes right. Ongoing.

Ship of Theseus by orphan_account - Brutal, dark and horrifying. Tim's parents slowly replace parts of his body with prosthetics. Has you on the edge of your seat. One-Shot.

Carry Your Hope Behind Your Teeth by @sentient-stove - Tim gets chosen by the Blue Lanterns. A genuinely beautiful fic about hope. One-Shot.

i'm scared by lastcrazyhorn - Young Tim finds Alfred's phone number through the BatComputer and can't stop reaching out. Incredible Alfred and Tim relationship, and you can really feel the desperation the Batfam has to find Tim. Complete.

The Best Cold Case in the Whole World by AutumnJolene ( @xautunno ) - Tim wants to create the most unsolvable murder, and uses himself as the victim. Equal parts funny and horrifying, especially since the Drakes are still alive and desperately trying to keep things calm. Complete.

If You Give a Talon a Cookie... by alexandria_library_of - Tim finds talon!Dick after the Court of Owls is destroyed by Bruce, and promptly is adopted by him. Adorable and heartwrenching in equal parts. Ongoing.

Take Me Home, Country Roads by alexandria_library_of - Attack on Titans' Tower AU, where Jason pulls Tim onto an involuntary roadtrip through the desert. I'm really excited to see where this one goes, because Jason is a genuine menace and Tim is torn between being terrified and desperate for the guy to go home already. Ongoing.

The Bat Under A Jolly Roger by HopeNight - One Piece x DC crossover, but it's so beautifully fleshed out, and the author has made Tim fit perfectly with the Straw Hats. Pings between the present when Tim and Crew get pulled back into the DCU, and how Tim survived in OP. It also tackles the relationships of the batfam beautifully. Messy, complicated, yet still full of love. Bruce in particular is portrayed in such an incredible way, even though you want to punch him for most of the work. If anything, even if crossovers aren't your thing, I recommend for the way it looks at Tim's relationships. Complete.

What Remains of Tim Drake by DineoandGriselda - Tim tries to figure out who he is after his family moves to Gotham. There's more hidden than he thinks. I honestly don't know how to describe this except it's a masterpiece. I'm not super far in, but the exposition and writing style is gorgeous. The mystery of the Drake family has me on the edge of my seat. Ongoing.

Cyclical by @memento-mori-1999 - Tim dies in Titans Tower, and has a bone to pick with everyone. I'm going to be honest, this fic will not be for everyone because it is brutally devastating and deconstructs fanon in an honest and hard-hitting way, particularly with Jason and Bruce. This fic WILL deconstruct your favourite characters (including Tim!) and run with it. Incredible meta fiction, and one I'm reading through slowly to savour. Complete.

Im recommending a Tim-centric fic called Something is not the same by theskeptileptic on ao3.

It's only 4 chapters in but it's really good. It follows Tim after he's been trapped with Dr.Oz for 6month. It's kinda fanon-y, but so far I love it.

hey, idk if you even want fic recs, but I've just finished "And other things that don't get old" by protagonistically on AO3, and it made me the same kind of insane as "Banshee In A Well" did

i just read that one ask about YJ finding about Tim's immortality before batfam and I bet it was doing something very stupid, like Kon probably challenged him that he can't do backflip off a building and Tim's like you are on and he kinda fucked up and he died and then got back up again(it wasn't even because of jumping off a building, it was probably something very quick very stupid and very Very embarrassing)

YEAAAAAAAH YOU ARE ABSOLUTELY CORRECT AND I HAVE SO MANY IDEAS WITH THIS

Tim tries to do a kick-flip on his skateboard off the hand rails in the stairwell of their base but eats shit so badly his neck breaks. Cue Young Justice begin panicking until he finally wakes up. He's forced to explain, they get mad, but also instantly go: this explains a lot and we can use this.

I'm thinking the main plot is Tim getting electrocuted while tinkering with the JL tower, YJ finding him and promptly being forced to Weekend at Bernie's Tim because all the adults keep being nosy.

I'm so excited for the "Tim doesn't return to the Batfam" fic! I'm wondering if the premise will end up being similar to Early Retirement by KittyMaine?

YOU COMPLETELY GUESSED WHAT FIC INSPIRED THAT WHOLE PREMISE LMAO

While I want similar cathartic vibes (choosing yourself, taking the time to recover, understanding that some relationships just aren't healthy even if you love them), the Batfam will still reunite eventually. Tim will go to a cabin (I think I chose Vermont?), informs YJ about the situation and that he's taking a break, and just. Starts sorting through everything. He accepts that he chose a pretty bad way to take this break and feels a lot of guilt for it, but he's also so damned tired, and he knows that the Bats wouldn't respect his boundaries if he told them.

Here's a snippet:

There comes a certain point where stopping is the only solution. Where trying to continue isn't just futile, but actively harmful. Where taking a break isn't optional anymore. And doing so isn't wrong or a bad thing.

At least, that's what his therapist tells Tim.

It's strange that he came to Vermont to distance himself from... everything for an indeterminate amount of time, and yet he can't quite escape it. Gotham exists in his very bones, moulded to his skeleton, because no-one ever escapes that city. Not really. But he's trying to.

Therapy was not something that came naturally to him. He doubts it comes naturally to anyone, but after a while, your thoughts start to repeat and you realise you need a second opinion from someone uninvolved and unaware. He never imagined therapy would be an option, given the many, many secrets, both his and others. But it's not too hard to spin the situation in a different way.

He doesn't talk about dying or the night or the symbol imprinted so deeply on his soul he still flinches when someone says the word 'Robin'. He doesn't tell his therapist about the pool or the desert. But he does tell him about his parents, about Bruce and Dick and Alfred and Jason, about the constant limbo in both families. He talks about too quiet nights and unanswered phone calls and music never listened to and shattered bottles worth more than the average man's salary and helping a man twice his age into the bathtub with all the razors confiscated because he saw him weigh one up with a look that scared him.

He starts talking and then he doesn't stop, even when his chest begins to tighten and his bones begin to ache. Some people describe therapy like an infected wound being lanced. Tim has lanced many over those over his life, and therapy feels nothing like that. It feels like a balloon slowly being filled with water, rubber stretching and squeaking as it gets heavier and heavier until it finally bursts to the ground on sun warmed concrete while children scream in the background.

...It always goes back to water in the end.
