Title 'Bug Too!' SEGA Saturn Greg Turner

I've always liked Bug!, at least from what little I've seen and played of it. I regrettably didn't get to catch your stream earlier (I only found out at the end) and I'm not sure when I'll get to catch up on it, but I would nonetheless be interested if you'd like to share your thoughts on the games here. =)
Haha, well, to tell the truth I don’t have an especially high opinion of Bug! As I said on the stream, Bug Too! was the game I bought with my Saturn, and that game is generally unremarkable. It’s basically just Gex, but with this weird pseudo-2.5D perspective and four way movement. It REALLY runs out of steam almost immediately.
That stream was the first time I’d ever really sat down and played the original Bug! and while it has the benefit of not feeling so much like Gex, it’s a very frustrating, poorly made game. The camera is really disorienting, there’s too many enemies and not enough health, and all of Bug’s little quips bring to mind the worst parts of Bubsy and Awesome Possum. About the enemies - it really is remarkable how stuffed full of them the game is. They have no problem having 5, 10, 15+ enemies on screen at the same time. Some, like the bees, move incredibly quickly, and then you have dung beetles rolling projectiles at you and hopping crickets. It’s incredibly overwhelming. It really feels like you have to crawl through levels sometimes, or else get pegged by everything in front of you.
Bug Too! is a much better balanced game in terms of difficulty, but it just highlights how mediocre everything else is. It’s also kind of racist - toward the end of the stream I end up in a middle-eastern zone where worms, dressed up like Saddam Hussein, brandish uzis and shout “Die, western scum!” and shoot turban-wearing fire ants out of bazooka (who themselves swing scimitars with a battle cry of “halalalalalal!”). It’s bad.
Neither game is really all that good. Very dated feeling.
