Oobagub (n): an object of unwarranted dismissal; something that should be feared or taken seriously but is not.

Commies! Terrorists! and Clowns! Oh My!

hiding behind every tree,

waiting to kill you or blow up your plane,

or to dare to make everything free.

Black people! Catholics! Witches! and Jews!

all had their moments of doubt,

considered the devil by those in the right

who would light their bright torches and shout.

A Bugaboo is but an object of fear,

but sadly, excessively so,

and every dark age has its own bugaboos

that appear and spontaneously grow.

But what the world needs is to take a good look

at the problems that truly exist

that aren’t feared enough or considered a hoax

by the doubters who always resist.

An Oobagub is thus an object of doubt

that people don’t fear as they should,

like Covid 19 that has swept through the world

because we didn’t do all we could.

Or take global warming that’s been on the rise

for at least twenty odd years in a row,

but while science and industry know that it’s real,

there are nitwits refusing to know.

Or right-wing terrorists, nationally grown,

are the biggest true threat on the list;

the FBI knows it, and media shows it,

but “conservative” dolts still resist.

There are plenty of problems that actually are

while the mob feasts on fears that are fake,

like Qanon nonsense, conspiracy theories,

and the lies that manipulators make.

So forget all the Bugaboos swirling around

causing chaos and clouding your head,

pay attention to truth, which is scary enough,

and watch out for Oobagubs instead!
