I get to cook for a group of people tomorrow :) I haven't cooked for people besides immediate fam for all of covid and I'm just :) :) I'm so fucking excited!!
We're all fully vaccinated in the house, all of their local friends are fully vaccinated, so we're doing a boardgame night. Including the 3 of us there may be like... 1 to 3 other people, which, isn't much, but it's a good intro to being social again. Right after I was told the plan I was like, wait, wait! I'm gonna cook. I need it. I need to cook for a group. Brenna, let me cook. And she, very used to my antics by now, just went lol sounds good matt ima see if anyone has dietary restrictions.
I might be the most socially anxious introvert I know, but I LOVE showing off my cooking for a group. It's the only way to make group social situations bearable for me: I might be too shy to hang out long, or I may hit social burnout fast, but my food makes an impression where I sometimes can't. compliments on my cooking are the only real compliments I can handle, too, and I'm honestly a sucker for positive attention.
But covid! Has cheated me of my ability to feed people!
I'm gonna cook arroz con pollo. It's my Dad's recipe that i've tweaked over the years. It feeds a crowd and the base ingredients are all things easily purchased in Minnesota. Except bijol, but I found out I could order bijol online.
They didn't have a pot that would work (it has to be able to be transferred to the oven and their only big pot has plastic handles), but I've been scrambling for a "thank you for letting me stay here for almost 2 months" present, so buying the pot the dish needed seemed perfect. Me and my sister-in-law have kept it secret from my bro so it could also count as an early birthday present surprise... Also, the dude is so fun to surprise. But he's also so freaking unobservant, if I don't point out the pot and say it's a gift he'll probably just think he had it all along and forgot about it. He'll probably look at it 2 months later and be like, "hey brenna did matt find this in one of the boxes or did you buy this at one point? Did we always have this???"
I can't believe i'll be leaving the house in 4 days. There's been ups and downs but yknow, it's been a home.
12 more days until I get to see my cat. But that's also 12 more days until I have to wake up at 2am to get to the minni airport because the cheapest flight available for the day i needed to reschedule to was at 6:30am. i go to sleep at 2am most nights... I could technically get up later, I don't have to leave for the airport til 3:30, but i'm too paranoid to get up right before I'd have to leave. Gotta give myself an hour cushion to account for anything going wrong. And an added half hour to actually get myself out of bed.
But anyways! Feeding people tomorrow!!
