HUH. WHAT. WHAT IS THIS. ARE WE. IS THIS CANON NOW??
When Lips are Kissed, Bonds are Strengthened
Hello, everyone! Just a little, cute, if a bit sappy, oneshot about Elmer and Bugs. Hope you enjoy it!
“Good night, evewyone! I have to go now.” Elmer waved at the other Looney Tunes, who also said something along the lines of “Yeah, I need to go, too”, although he couldn’t tell exactly, due to their stumbled speech. He made a mental note to tell them to take it easier with the alcohol at the next party.
“Byeee, Elmsy! And Merry Christmas everyone!” A certain black duck shouted, before marching off to his house and tripping over his feet in the process (which of course, earned a couple of laughs and chuckles from the others).
The hunter shook his head amused. He deffinetly needed to tell them to cut on the alcohol.
A few minutes later, after a few more ‘byes’ and ‘goodnights’ were said, the gang split up, each heading to their house for some peace and quiet after an exhausting, but fun, night.
Elmer was about to do the same, but a familiar voice made him stop in his tracks.
“Ehh, ya care for some company on da way home, Doc?”
He turned around, in order to see who else, but Bugs, munching on his carrot.
“Do you think I am incapabwe of walking home on my own, wabbit?” Elmer asked, playfully.
Bugs put his hands on his chest and gasped dramatically. “Why, Elmer, I would never think dat about you. On da contrary, I want ya to walk me home.” Saying that he spun around and transformed into a beautiful, elegant lady. “Oh, handsome, would you walk a little lady back to her house, safetly? Who knows what might happen to helpless, little me, all alone, at night!”
“I’ve seen cwiminals mowe helpless than you.” Said Elmer, trying to sound annoyed with the rabbit’s stunt, but failing to conceal his smile.
After Bugs changed back to his normal look, the two strolled down the sidewalk in the direction of their houses. They walked in silence, not an uncomfortable one though. They were simply too tierd to engage in any conversation, so they stuck with walking beside each other, holding hands. In a short while, they arrived at the entrance of Toon Town Park and decided to cut it through there, as the road was shorter and the sight was prettier.
At one point, Bugs stopped and suggested they rest on a bench.
“Bugs, pwease.” Said Elmer exasperated. “Can’t you rest at home?”
“But I’m tierd, Doc. C’mon, just a few minutes?”
Elmer rolled his eyes, but sat down nevertheless. A long pause followed after that, during which they sat and admired the view.
The December night hung lazily above Toon Town, breathing coldly upon the drawn city. Small snowflakes, like stars of cristal, fell from its cloudy cloak, landing gently on the white blanket that covered everything, becoming a part of it. Everything was quiet and still, as if time had stopped and the town, along with its inhabitants, will forever be trapped in that winter tableau. The colorful Christmas lights that had been hung on the trees, illuminated the park.
Usually, Bugs wasn’t a romantic person. But seeing that beautiful scenery made him feel dreamy, unaware of the world around them and suddenly, he found himself in need of physical contact.
He looked at Elmer, beside him, and nervously put one arm around him. To his relief the toon didn't shake him off. Instead, he leaned onto him, putting his head on the rabbit's shoulder. Bugs rested his head on Elmer's, his stomach full of butterflies and his heart leaping from his chest.
"Can you bewieve it, Bugs?" Elmer said suddenly.
"Believe what, Doc?"
"Four years ago, wight in this pwace, you asked me to be youw boyfwiend."
Bugs smiled. Elmer was perfectly correct. That night, when the clock struck 12:00 AM, there would be exactly four years since they've started dating. Four years since that very special night in 1959. How time flew by...
The rabbit glanced at his partner who was staring dreamily, his beautiful blue eyes shining brightly, like the Christmas lights. Bugs felt the sudden urge to stare directly in those sapphire orbs.
Slowly, he took his boyfriend’s chin in his gloved hand and gently turned his head towards him. Elmer shifted his gaze, away from the winter wonderland, and looked up at the hare.
“What are you doing, wabbit?” he asked, his voice, however, free of the usual venom that almost always accompanied the question.
Bugs didn’t answer. Instead, he just beamed at the older toon, wanting to remember every detail about him. The shape of his face, his rosy full cheeks, his superb azure eyes, his lips...
Elmer, a bit confuzed at the begining, soon lost himself as well at the sight of his loved one. He looked at the white and grey fur on his face, so soft, he knew very well (Bugs always liked to keep his fur clean and smooth, brushing it every morning and washing it very often; the hunter would ran his fingers through it whenever they cuddled and marvel at how velvety it was), at his cute, pink nose and into those icy grey eyes that always sparkled playfully.
"Can I kiss you?"
Bugs' voice was barely above a whisper, yet Elmer still jumped a bit, eyes widening in the process.
"I mean, we don't have ta!" The rabbit hurriedly added, seeing the panic spread on his face. "If you don't want ta, then of course, I'm not gonna push you, but... Can I?"
"Why, though?" He asked, after a pause.
"Well, because I... uh, I love ya... and kissing sounds... nice, I guess." Bugs clumsily tried to explain. "And I... I dunno why, really. It's... just what came to mind..."
Elmer considered. He loved Bugs. He knew that for sure. Four years of going out with the rabbit had convinced him that he actually didn't mind his witty attitude and that his life would be all dull and boring without the bunny's stunts. But any form of phisical contact, aside from hugging amd cuddling, scared him. Bugs was his first (and last, he hoped) and, naturally, he was incrediblly inexpirienced. That combined with his usual nervousness and clumsiness made the perfect recipie for messing it up. He didn't want to ruin this experience for Bugs...
"Listen," he heard the rabbit speak softly. "We don't have ta do it, ok? I'm sorry for askin', I don't know what I was thinkin', I just-"
"What?!" Elmer shot his head up and met the rabbit's apologetic gaze. "Don't be sowwy! You've done nothing bad! It's me where the pwobwem is..." he added, regretfully, his voice getting quieter.
Bugs looked at him perplexed. "What do you mean?"
"It's just... I'm pwobabwy gonna wuin it fow both of us if we twy it! 'Cause that's just what I do. And you'we not going to wike it, not with me at weast, I just know it. And that will wuin our welationship and I don't wanna wuin-"
"Wait, hold on, hold on!" Bugs interrupted. "Elmer, how in Avery's name did you think of that?! Haven't I told you numerous times? I love ya. I don't care about anything else other than bein' with ya. If you want to kiss now or tomorrow or next year, any way it's fine by me." He smiled gently at him. "And never say that you'll ruin our relationship 'cause you could never do that, understood?"
Elmer smiled back and nodded. Bugs was the best boyfriend he could ever wish for. He had been there since the begining, even before they started dating, to help him with his war trauma, his nightmares, his insecurities, his assault, everything. If there was someone he trusted with his life and wanted to share these love experiences with, that was Bugs. Suddenly, he felt a special warmth blossom inside of him and spread through his body, despite the night's cold. All of his doubts and insecurities vanishing, he grabbed Bugs' gloved hands.
"Kiss me."
The rabbit stared at him increduously. "Are you sure? You don't have to-"
"But I want to! Kiss me!" He repeated, more eager that time. "Pwease."
So Bugs did. Taking his chin into his paw again, and lovingly gazing at him one more time, he pressed his lips lightly on the hunter's, closing his eyes.
Bugs' face went fiery red. His pulse sped up, his ears perked up and his toes curled, feeling a thrill run down his spine. His head was emptied of thoughts (something he was not used to) and he was fairly certain that small, pink hearts were floating around him, but he couldn't find the capacity to focus on that. Instead, all he focused on was Elmer and how wonderful it felt to have him so close. He removed his hand from his chin and wrapped his arms around him, smiling into the kiss.
Elmer was in Heaven, as well. Never in his life had he felt more alive and also more unaware of everything that at that moment. For once, the entire world was in perfect harmony, with him and Bugs at its center, surrounded by the bliss and tranquility love could offer, watched only by the quiet, sparkly stars. For a few seconds, there was no more war, no more hate, no more greed, just them. Elmer was sure that if everyone would love how they loved eachother and felt what they did, the world would be a much better place.
Eventually, after about twenty seconds (that felt like an eternity) the two broke the kiss, not letting go of each other, however. A few seconds were needed for them to regain their senses and when they did, Bugs was the first to speak, naturally.
"Well, that was fun. We should do it more often."
The older toon laughed. "Deffinetwy. Now, should we get home?"
"Oh, yes. Me cotton tail is all frozen now. I'm gonna have ta spend ages to thaw it."
The two stood up and, smiling at each other, set off to their homes, hand in hand, their bond a tad stronger than it was a few minutes ago.
THE END
idk
hey there everyone! it’s my main man’s 85th birthday today!! thought i’d give a little backstory about myself for this one to feel a little more sentimental.
seems kind of cheesy, but honestly, this cartoon kind of changed my life. i used to watch “the bugs bunny road runner movie” at 4-5 am when i was around 8. just this movie. and i always come back just to watch this. i’ll never forget the first time i watched it. bawled my eyes out. this was the one that kind of started my hyperfixation on elmer.
honestly, if i hadn’t seen this cartoon, i wouldn’t have wanted to pursue a career in animation. i wouldn’t have made so many great memories, met some many wonderful people (shoutout to Cel for feasting on LT content alongside me the past year or so), and honestly would never be where i am today. i would probably be a completely different person, to be quite honest.
so, i just wanna say thank you, and return the love (hehe get it?) back to you guys like you have given me here. i honestly used to be made fun of and mocked for this hyperfixation (it’s been almost 11-12 years now). i just, i’m really happy i found a space like this on tumblr, where all my cringe thoughts can go free to the wind. y’all are seriously the best.
much love and appreciation and everything that is good in the world, Tuney.
