Niki was out on a lovely stroll when she noticed somebody a little ahead of her.
She was going to ignore them, especially when she realized who it was, but unfortunately he noticed her as well.
"Hey," he said.
"Hi, we haven't met yet, I'm Niki," she replied, definitely on her guard. She'd heard a few things about him, notably his mean trait.
"I'm Jack," he introduced himself, and although it was faint, perhaps even forced, Niki was pretty sure she saw a smile.
A smile!
She wasn't about to ignore everyone else's opinions about this Sim, but from what she could tell... he didn't seem so terrible.
"You know, I heard from more than one Sim that you were a bit of a... plumbob," she told him frankly.
Jack laughed. "Yeah, well, they aren't wrong. You caught me with a lot of happy moodlets."
“Welcome everyone,” Alana said with a beaming smile as she surveyed the group of Sims. “I know you’re probably itching to get settled in and start grinding some skills, but before you do I wanted to set the scene and establish some of the Watcher’s custom rules for this challenge.”
Alana proceeded to explain a few important things. While most of PurzelSims’ rules for the Build-a-City Challenge would be applied here, there were some slight modifications — most of them to make the challenge even harder.
“Obviously the biggest change is that we’re fifteen Sims divided up randomly into three different households. Usually, you never see more than six, maybe eight if the Watcher is incredibly lucky. This is mostly to make things more fun and have some better relationship dynamics right from the beginning. To make it less of an advantage, however, the Watcher will not be allowed to use any CAS Points until all starting debts have been paid off.”
Welcome to Building SimNation, a Build-a-City Challenge by Melsie-Sims!
This is the main navigation post for everything to do with the challenge. Here you’ll be able to catch up with all of the characters, their growing families and the drama they’ve been getting up to while working to unlock careers, lot types and even other worlds!
As always, my gameplay style is very story-driven so I may not be unlocking things as quickly as other players. I prefer to write a good story and explore the sims’ personalities and relationship dynamics first and foremost.
There are chrono links for those of you reading on desktop, as well as links for mobile users. Be aware that by clicking some of these links, you may be getting some story spoilers! Happy Simming! 💚

By morning, everything was falling apart.
"Oh woohooing heck," Iggy swore when he walked into the kitchen and realized his shoes were completely sopping wet. "I JUST fixed the toilet yesterday!"
He sighed and got to work. "This stupid house is only a year old and it's already falling apart..." he grumbled as he worked away.
The sink kept pouring water all over the place.
Iggy continued to rant and rave, his tense moodlet getting the better of him. "SimCity could've given us some better starter houses..."
It was well after midnight when the party wrapped up and the guests started to leave the lot.
That meant Year 2 was over for the residents of Brindleton Farm and it was time to move on to Simoleon Camp on the island across the water.
She loved her son, but no longer being pregnant was such a relief to Kennedy. She could finally go out, work on some chores, explore the island, and get back to collecting all of the things.
Her first chore of the day was to bond with the bees and collect their honey.
Every single simoleon earned went to the 1,010 simoleon debt that they still owed.
Gabi was playing Don't Wake the Llama all by herself — Floyd and Niki abandoned her! — when she noticed somebody walk up the front porch steps and stop awkwardly by the front door.
"Hi!" she said when he didn't immediately speak to her. "Are you here to see someone?"
"Oh, hi... uh no I just... uh..." David rubbed his neck awkwardly. "I wanted to see how things were going... besides all of the partying to unlock townies, you know? Are you getting close to unlocking anything else?"
"Oh! Well, I'm trying to unlock the freelance Fashion Photographer job, and I'm probably gonna try to max out my charisma to unlock the Entertainer career... but we do need townies first before we can get jobs... so partying is kind of... necessary."
"Right," David nodded. Gabi saw a muscle twitch in his jaw, but before she could ask if he was okay he was grinning again. "Well... Simoleon Camp also has a 1,910 simoleons left to pay off of their debt. My household donated some funds to them to help. I don't know if that's something that'd interest you guys too?"
"Can we do that?" Gabi asked.
"Yeah! Alana gave us the go-ahead!" David told her.
"Well, in that case, I'll definitely talk to the boys about it. We're doing pretty well, so I'm sure we could help them out!"
"Good, good," David clapped his hands. "I know I'm probably annoying a lot of Sims... and not everyone agrees with me... but I just really want to see progress before the end of Year 2, you know? I feel like we should be doing better than we are."
"You're not annoying! I totally see your point! But you do know the Watcher prefers to write stories, right? Not grind skills? So... the slow pace might be here to stay."
