Our 7:30am training was a refresher on report writing. Although as home inspectors we did not start out to be writers, in the final analysis, each Home Inspection Report is a THESIS. Writing one or two papers per day is astounding output. The average home inspection report can be 5,000 words; even a checklist report averages about 1,500 words of commentary. At two inspections per day, that’s 3,000 to 10,000 written words per day for each inspector. Is it any wonder that the inspector’s intention is sometimes misunderstood by the readers? Just consider the circumstances under which home inspection reports are created - (i.e., Notes taken during a 2 or 3-hour tour of the property, exterior of the dwelling, climbing on the roof, walking around the interior, and crawling through the crawl spaces). It's quite an accomplishment when a report, so prepared, ends up comprehensive and easy to read. After you and your agent have read your home inspection report and before you talk to anyone else, call us to go over your report and make sure you clearly understand everything. Abundant Home Inspection Services, offer an after inspection consultation. Remember, after you sign those papers at closing, it's all on you.
