❛ &. ┊   ❄    nick makes a face, as if he’s just been asked the hardest question in history. ❝ you’re gonna make me choose between two of my favorite things?! that’s a low blow, scott, ❞ dramatic sigh is given as nick ponders, arms crossing over his chest to keep his hands form fidgeting. ❝ what if i stirred my coco with a candy cane? or broke it into pieces and made it a peppermint hot chocolate? is that cheating? ❞ brows wiggle a bit in the others direction. ❝ c’mon, man, i can’t choose. i want both! ❞

staying really shouldn’t be an option. when she knows curtis might barge in at any point, scolding them that scott has work to do, carol is tempted to say she shouldn’t. but the elf isn’t her boss and he isn’t scott’s either so when she chooses to comply, shifting on the couch so she can rest her head on her husband’s shoulder, it’s an entirely selfish decision.    “ please tell me you’re not behind on your schedule. i hate to be the reason there’s even more of a delay. ”    but in her defense, she has offered to help him even though she knows there isn’t much she could have done for him. 

resting her hand on his arm, carol lets out a soft sigh, truly just enjoying this quiet moment. busy as things are, she has not once regretted saying yes.    “ have you eaten yet, honey? ”

she stares at the christmas tree, lost in thought, the expression on her face almost a little sorrowful. there is no way she could deny that she is thinking about her parents, how she misses them around this time of the year. scott is busy and she understands it but that means she has a lot of time on her own and carol cannot help but think it would be lovely to have someone else around. someone who can keep her company when scott is busy with work and she has some free time herself. even though she tries hard to be involved as much as possible, there are certain things that are out of her control.

the hand on her shoulder pulls her out of her thought and turns her head to look at her husband. she gives him a smile but it doesn’t completely reach her eyes and so she reaches for his hand to give it a small squeeze.    “ i know. it’s the busy time of the year. please, don’t worry about me. i’m fine. ”    and she truly believes she is, she wants to be. the last thing she wants is to be yet another thing scott has to worry about. gently pulling their joined hands towards her a little, she presses a kiss to the back of his hand.    “ maybe i should see if the elves need some help in the kitchen. ”

“i know it’s your busy time of the year and i certainly don’t want to slow you down,”    there’s more to come, of course, but first she moves closer to see him behind sit behind his desk.    “but do you think you might be able to spare ... an hour or two? we’ve got the tree, there’s hot chocolate. this place won’t burn down if you spend some a few hours with the family.”    it’s on her missing her family around this time and she knows it. and she also knows she shouldn’t be asking, but it is one of those days.

"no offense, but i’m just not a big christmas person.” she used to be. it used to be her favorite holiday. she’d put up the tree, decorate thehouse, but ever since her parents died, she just couldn’t bring herself to acknowledge it. it just felt like one big reminder that they weren’t around anymore.
