In Memory of Dakota G. -- July 5th, 1992 - April 23rd, 2023

Three years ago today, April 23rd 2023, my friend Dakota unexpectedly passed away. I miss him so much and think about him every day, and I thought it would be appropriate to make this art to commemorate him on the third anniversary of his passing.

Dakota and I met each other through my old job, which was my first ever job. I worked there for 6.5 years, and Dakota and I had seen so many come and go that we were literally the sole two 6+ year veterans of our division of the store we worked at, which was a pet store. Dakota loved dogs and was particularly fond of pitbulls/bull breeds, the red nose pit bull being his favorite so I chose to depict him similar to one in this piece. As we knew each other through a pet store, I gave him a classic 'Kong' dog toy, a brand we were all too familiar with working at that place. The shirt he's wearing here is also based on an actual shirt he wore frequently, which always vaguely reminded me of an Arizona green tea can/bottle.

If you're seeing this on the day of it being posted, my sister, friend (who also knew and worked with him) and I are out observing the third anniversary of his passing and celebrating his life by going bowling and eating lunch/dinner at his favorite chain restaurant. You are so loved and greatly missed, Dakota. Thank you for being my friend and thank you for continuing to be a guiding spirit. <3

The fact that /r/banpitbulls has been allowed to brigade every single thread about pitbulls, even innocent pictures of them, and to spam gore and animal abuse on the pitbull subreddit for over 15 years just speaks volumes of how useless the reddit admins are

⚠️ SIGN to help our shelter dogs! ⚠️

🩵 At the moment, the Irish government is imposing a ban on XL Bully dogs. If you love dogs, please consider signing the petition to extend the rehoming of XL Bullies this October! 

🩵 “From October 1st 2024, new regulations will prohibit the importing, breeding, selling and RE-HOMING of XL Bullies.”  

🩵 Hundreds, if not thousands, of innocent dogs will be euthanised in shelters this October. If you agree with the ban, so be it, I will not argue with that. But the mass euthanasia that is about to take place is completely unnecessary and cruel. Shelters in Ireland do a fantastic job at rehoming rescue dogs and specific breeds to appropriate and responsible homes. There is simply no need to force shelters to euthanise these bully dogs when there are experienced people willing to rescue and train them. 

🩵 We are NOT advocating to stop the ban altogether. We are simply advocating to lift (or at least delay) the rehoming ban.

I do not know how many times I heard a classic rock / aor radio DJ introduce the next song and band with, "They ain't related, but they Doobie Brothers." Mildly interesting that they did not try to force a change-over of records to cds.

Funny thing as Salem becomes gray. The dog he butts heads on gets a color change as well.

But not his "Feline brothers and sisters".

And we get political with a searing indictment of our economic priorities and the wealth gap.

A veritable Robin Hood.
