summary: with bumps on foreheads and anger issues to sort out, you and Leo Valdez are stuck inside Bunker 9's long storage room with no way out
warnings: unedited and rushed piece of work, descriptions of violence, a small death threat - nothing major or serious.
notes: request: this takes place in between the lost hero and mark of athena while they're still building Argo II.
“Hey, Y/N and Leo,” Connor Stoll cheerily approached the two of you inside Bunker 9, as you came back from a visit to the infirmary.
“What do you want?” You sighed, holding an ice pack against your forehead.
“Annabeth told me to show the two of you something,” Connor shrugged.
“What is it?” Leo asked Connor.
Connor turned around and motioned the two of you to follow him. He led you both past the hydraulic lift and the Argo masthead until you came face to face with the entrance of the Bunker’s long-term storage room.
“Uh,” Leo furrowed his brows. “What is she showing me?”
“I don’t know, really,” Connor shrugged. “Just to lead the two of you inside.”
Connor opened the door to the dark storage room, letting you and Leo come inside first. You thought he was coming in after the two of you, but with a bang, the storage room door shut, leaving you and Leo in the dark.
Light came to be inside the small storage space as a small flame flickered to life in Leo’s palm.
“Annabeth?” He called out.
“She’s not here,” you shook your head. You should have known better, following Connor’s command like that. Still, you were tired and just want the day to finish.
“How can you be so sure?” Leo taunted.
“We’re inside a cramped storage room, what do you think, genius?” You shot back. You turned around and banged your fist against the metal cargo doors. “LET US OUT!”
“Come on, Con, let us out,” Leo yelled beside you. You thought it would work, yet you didn’t hear a sound - not a laugh or a cackle outside - only the sounds of machines whirring and metal creaking were heard, not even footsteps.
“COME ON, OPEN THE DOOR,” you yelled against your might, but it was no use as no one even came.
Frustrated, you stormed over to the boy in front of you, “This is all your fault!” It was not much of a hassle, really, as it only took a step to stand in front of him.
“How can it be my fault?” He countered, stretching his hand away from you, careful not to let his flames hit you or anything flammable.
Technically, it wasn’t even his fault that the two of you were locked inside a cramped weapon shed. It was Connor Stoll - you just had to blame someone near you, which was Leo Valdez.
“Well, you started it,” you fumed, crossing your arms in your chest.
“You were the one who threw the screwdriver in my face!” He argued. “How can I not get back at you for it?”
“Oh, you could say ‘hey, y/n, thanks for this bump on my head, by the way,” You pointed at your forehead. “Instead of throwing it back to me!”
“Oh, hey, Y/N, thanks for this bump, by the way,” Leo sneered. “Happy now?”
Leo placed the ice bag he was holding against his forehead, hissing as the sharp cold hit him. “I really love this one. It’s really fashionable, don’t you think so?”
“Yes, very,” You rolled your eyes. “And now I should walk the runway with this ice pack.”
“Do it,” Leo pointed at the door,
“Get us out first,” you countered. “It’s your fault we’re even here.”
“Again,” Leo raised his arms in frustration. “How can it be my fault!?”
“You’re the one who ran to Will, like-” You did your best to mimic his actions from earlier - which wasn’t really the best as you were sure Leo can still feel your rage hitting him like waves and your pout was nowhere near one. “Ooh, Will, Y/N gave me a booboo, can you please kiss it to make me feel better?”
“I’m not like that!” Leo scowled, stomping his foot in frustration. It would have been a nice show of his anger, but not when he stomped on yours.
“Gods,” you cursed, crouching down to hold your foot. “You realize we’re stuck inside a very cramped closet, right? And that we’re one step away from each other?”
“Oh, wow,” Leo rolled his eyes. “Thanks for pointing out the obvious, genius.”
“No problem,” you gritted.
If you didn’t hate him before, you truly hate him now. You weren’t exactly one to fight back, given that you’re a daughter of Hypnos and those who like to sleep like it calm. But seriously, being around Leo Valdez just brings out the worst in you. You made an oath to yourself that you are never, ever, coming even fifty feet near him once you get out of this room.
“Ugh,” You huffed, raising your arms and turning back around, only to hit your head on a shelf. You heard Leo silently laugh behind you. “I hate you, Valdez.”
“Yeah, thanks for the info,” Even turned away from him, you knew he was rolling his eyes. It made you just want to turn back around and pull his eyeballs out of its sockets.
Instead of acting on your anger, you leaned your back against the metal doors and slid down, hugging your knees. You were seriously getting tired from all this fighting. You just want to go back to your cabin and sleep for an hour or two. That would be nice. Instead, you were stuck with Leo Valdez.
“Any luck getting us out?” You asked him. You were out of options, and fighting with Leo was just exhausting you.
“Working on it,” was what he said as he rummaged inside his tool belt. It was amazing, really, how he could just get any tool he wanted from that little pack around his waist. You heard him groan, before slumping down beside you.
As he took a seat beside you, he dropped about five nails and a hammer on his lap. He grabbed a few tools, which you didn’t recognize, and started tinkering. His hands going to work like they knew what to do.
You let out a yawn as you rested your head above your kneecaps. “I’m getting tired. Is there any way you can work faster?”
“Nope,” he answered, as his long fingers skimmed across the different sizes of screws he now has laid out in front of him. You figured it was hard for him - to just work with one hand, while the other was busy keeping the fire steadily burning on his palm.
“Want me to help you?” You offered. You just wanted to get out of here quickly, and it would make Leo work much faster.
“Nah,” he shook his head. “You can sleep there. I’ll wake you up when I’m done.”
“You sure?” You asked him. “It's very hard to wake me up.”
“Yeah, sure,” Leo waved off. “I woke up Percy once and got drenched. I’m sure you’ll be fine.”
“Yeah,” you nodded. “Whatever you say. I swear to the gods, Leo, if I woke up and we still don’t have a way out.”
“You’ll kill me?” Leo finished. “Yeah, I know. Just trust me on this.”
Letting out another yawn, you let yourself calm down and fall asleep. In your sleep, you raised your head and mumbled how your neck hurts. Wiping a greasy hand on his trousers, Leo positioned your head on his shoulder and let you sleep there while he worked.
