Honestly, I used to agree with you 100%. Like yeah, if he refuses to let go of condoms as the only method of prevention after 20 years of that obviously not working, he's an idiot, and it's harmful, but I'm just saying there's probably a lot of horror behind that refusal and his being an idiot. Then again I suppose he does more harm than good nowadays.
I guess I'm more wary of that type of dismissal (do not have empathy for) now because it's a common theme within activism today that creates pretty deep or irreparable divides (most recently, how Jared Leto was called trans-misogynist for portraying Rayon in Dallas Buyers Club and then it became a black-and-white fight between transwomen like Calpernia Adams and Dana Beyer or Parker Marie Molloy over who has the right to feel and then represent trans, but also Ru Paul and language-policing).
I dunno. I kind of feel like without empathy, communication and healing is impossible. And I'm so bored of everyone wanting to punish everyone else.
