“I can be responsible for my own severed leg, thank you.” / I’m challenging you to answer this from ... either Constantine, or modern verse Caranthir. Cary. My dude
out of context d&d
If there was one thing that Caranthir had come, in so many thousands of years of life upon this Earth, to know as a truism, a wisdom rivaling any known or studied or written down by the loremasters of his kin, it was this: humans were fucking weird.
Not that he was entirely certain the young mortal bleeding upon the sidewalk in front of him was human; there was a strangeness to the human’s thought, an odd corruption or perversion which seemed to Caranthir akin to that which he had once long ago felt in the orcor which had in times immemorial been elves. But unlike those twisted parodies of the Quendi, this mortal looked, outwardly at the least, entirely human.
He was still an asshole, however.
Caranthir looked down at him, and then looked in the direction that the other had fled… the other, which had most certainly not been human, nor had it been an orc either. It had been… something outside his experience entirely, but almost certainly a thing of Arda Marred, a warped creature. It seemed to have left for now, but he did not know when it might return.
Another glance back at the young mortal, who seemed… rather unfazed by the fact that the majority of his left leg was in fact severed and twitching an arms-length from the rest of his body. “Shall I carry the leg for you, or can you be responsible for that, too?” the elf asked, dryly. “And did you plan to hop to the medical center? Seems rather messy.”
BIRTHDAY??? i hope it is very very good and involves a lot of books, cats, and hopefully no difficult customers! :0

“ The body was found approximately twelve minutes after we found a lead. The killing method was clean, without any needless movements-- and among the rest of the group, this person is the one with the greatest skill. It seems the killer had aimed for the jugular first thing, then ran off with a good portion of the victim’s organs. Does that sound familiar ? ”
A CLASSIC CASE OF RABBIT AND WOLF. Reports had shown this new group of ghouls were specific in their hunts-- always going for the major parts of the body, then never leaving a trace. This time, however, one may think otherwise when the best faces the best.
“ This information was already relayed to the others, so no need to report our findings just yet. This assignment should be enough to bring in your good name, after all. ”

⸻ chie’s completely unbothered by his obvious irritation, just as she is by most things. his question does earn a curious glance his direction, though, her head tilting slightly to the side.
she has no illusions about how dangerous her life is, so him asking this of her is no surprise. she hadn’t really pieced it together until now, but it’s possible for him to know that she’s been wanted by the ccg for various offenses—he might not know ( it tends to be lower-ranking investigators who are after her, given that she’s a human ), but still. he could know.
a shrug is her initial answer, her expression unreadable. “ i guess i’m too clever to be caught by the ccg, ” she explains, speaking slowly ( trying to work out the answer as she goes ). “ and i’ve heard that i don’t smell like anything special to ghouls at all, i go unnoticed most of the time. ”
Hues linger atop supposedly ‘ human ’ physique while a perusal’s ongoing, latter’s foul stench easily distinguishable from both human & ghoul. A nearly inaudible ( vaguely amused ) scoff follows as a result of spotted hypocrisy and self’s head tilts back a tad, before lips part ways and an indiscreet comment is indecorously spewed forward. ❛ . . . For all you ( doves ) say you hate ghouls, you sure don’t seem to mind becoming one. ❜

In all honesty, Yuuichi had intended his 'inquiry’ to be a rhetorical, half-joking question, but apparently he wasn’t going to get off that easily. The young man glanced away uncomfortably, one hand rubbing the back of his neck. It was a fair enough answer, had one been expected. However, Yuuichi would be lying if he said the curt response was anything he didn’t already know. Any idiot could see that a soft, easy life was nothing but a distant dream now.
“Guess sarcasm isn’t your thing, huh?” he remarked, a hint of that anxious smile on his lips. Crossing his arms, Yuuichi pushed that discomfort down deep, replacing it with a surprisingly stern expression. “Yeah... I know that’s not really in the cards. At least, not right now, and probably not for a really, really long time, either.”
“But,” he added, firmly, though perhaps with a hint of faint melancholy as well, “Maybe it sounds naive, but that’s a future worth fighting for, right? One where people actually can hope for a life like that? Guess I’m not sure what anybody fights for, if it’s not a day when nobody has to live their lives scared anymore. Doesn’t really seem to me like any other future is worth that kind of sacrifice, y’know?” Yuuichi certainly wasn’t the best with fancy words, but he clearly had at least some idea of how he believed the world should be.
Whether such an optimistic view could ever actually become reality, however, was most definitely up for debate.
