Bush — but the proceedings weren’t just a somber affair. They were key moments I captured from watching. When we die we are laid to rest somewhere, many factors determines where one is laid to rest. Even though death is often a discuss many dread and do not take cognizance of the many rituals surrounding it, however, In some cultures in Nigeria women are buried differently especially married women. But why are these women buried differently? Why women and not men? Ever thought about where you want to be buried? All these many more will be discussed on today’s show. #abookishrendezvousreview - Burial Rites by Hannah Kent is a historic crime novel set in Northern Iceland in the year 1829. Agnes Magnúsdóttir, Sigrídur Gudmundsdóttir and Fridrik Sigurdsson have been accused of killing Natan Ketilsson and Pétur Jónsson. Agnes and Fridrik have been condemned to die. Due to there being no prisons in Northern Iceland, they both have been sent to different farms, where they will live and serve the family till their execution. A local priest has been entrusted the task of absolving Agnes of her crime. ___________________________ Hannah Kent has managed to capture the historical details of Northern Iceland deftly - her research has been thorough. The manifold climatic changes have too been described beautifully. Where the reading experience fell flat for me was in the prose, especially during the middle of the book - it felt that as if each word was eked our with great effort. The characters, including Agnes, did not spur on my curiosity. The book did not read , as a crime novel ought to read, for me.
