A long weekend camping in the Angeles National Forest was exactly what I needed. I've been going to Buckhorn Campground for ten years and it remains my favorite. It was quite with nothing but the babbling creek, the wind through the trees, and a chorus of birds to keep me company. And Charlie of course! Hikes to Burkhart Saddle, Mt Waterman, and Twin Peaks rounded out the weekend. Today's hike started at the top of Buckhorn Campground in an attempt to hike the Burkhart Trail. Sinking knee deep into the snow proved to be a bit challenging so we opted instead for the Silver Moccasin Trail off of Chilao Campground and headed north. Lots of snow, a juicy Jerusalem cricket, and beautiful vistas were the highlights of the day.
