Let Me Entertain You

I accidentally wrote a small burlesque!AU fic.

Pairing: Gavin/Freelancer, very low key implied D.A.M.N. polycule, mentioned David/Angel.

TW: mentions of physical and emotional abuse and poor working conditions, bruises, Kody is being his regular self, light implication of sex work.

Notes: if I recall correctly the original AU idea belongs to @teasandcardigans, editing might leave much to be desired.

Word count: a bit over 1100.

Kody is furious. After his lead performer ran off with an incubus - no warning - just up and gone, his other workers started fleeting to that new cabaret and his business was falling apart in his hands. He decides that even if he can’t restore it, he’ll at least get his revenge. So he calls the security - the police doesn’t exactly function well here - in the bohemian hedonistic part of town - so a private security company has recently set themselves to keep peace there - and makes big teary eyes, telling how their employees disappear with no trace (almost truth), and how he’s worried and that he heard bad rumours about the new place, whispering that he suspects human trafficking. The werewolves promise him to check and find nothing better than to just turn up  to a performance at a new cabaret - three main wolves and a few others for support. 

It seems however that the performers knew that something like this was going to happen and prepared accordingly. A  freelancer dressed in a tight sparkly green outfit, supposedly representing a serpent, walks down the ladder onto the stage, locks eyes with David who had just entered and says: "We would like to remind the police that sin wasn't invented on Montmartre, it was just perfected here", then they address the audience, smiling and jesting, clearly flirting with someone in the front row, taking provocative poses. "Fellas, for these prices? I'm an ecdysiast!" - they take off one of their long gloves and throw it from the stage - someone in the audience scrambles to catch it . David, Asher and Milo are holding up alright, while Christian and others are drooling in the background. When the performance is over and the curtain goes down over their clearly naked siluett. David grunts at everyone to collect themselves and go ask around, while he goes to interrogate talk to the freelancer, who Kody named and described specifically. He passes by an earth elemental suspiciously eyeing him, but letting him freely go further, David finds them already in their dressing room, wearing a silk robe with their hair in slight disarray.

"Can I talk to you in private?"

"Well," they look up at him, grinning like a cat, "usually we take extra for that," they put a finger on his chest, "but for a man like you, I can make an exception," they make a calling gesture leading him into the dressing room.

David is happy he had already met his mate, or his head would be getting very foggy at the moment, he swallows. "No I actually just want to ask you a few questions," he definitely doesn't want any misunderstandings happening.

"Whatever you say, big guy," they land in an armchair lazily leaning back and folding their legs, pointing him to a loveseat across from him.

Little does David know that in the next room, through a doorway covered by a sparkly curtain, sits Gavin and listens to every word, ready to interfere at any moment.

"We've received," Alpha clears his throat, "information, that you and your colleagues might be held here against your will, and we wanted to see for ourselves as well as let you know that if you need any help we're more than happy to be of assistance."

"And who, might I ask, provided you with such insights?" their pose is still relaxed and voice still playful, but their eyes on him become sharper.

The shifter hesitates for a moment, but decides to be honest, "Your former employer, Kody..."

They don't let him finish, "If he sent you to bring me, you can run back to him and tell that scumbag, that he'll need more than a few werewolves to drag me there," their back is straight, all their body language is tense, their voice is cold and articulate.

"No need to get so get so worked up," he raises his hands and slightly lowers his head, trying to show that he isn't posing a threat, “No one’s ‘dragging’ you anywhere,” he pauses to see if they’re going to react but the freelancer is just looking at him expectantly, “So, I take it you can tell me different story?”

“A story?” they sound offended, “I’ll give  you a story,” their lips twist as if they swallow a curse, but then seem to calm down and actually tell him. How Kody mistreats his employees - underpays, overworks, verbally and physically abuses them. The more they talk, the angrier they get, at the end they free their left hand from their robe, and David involuntarily flushes because under it they’re still completely bare, they point at a scar on their upper arm - it was clearly inflicted on their skin not once and not twice - someone was grabbing them there wanting it to hurt day after day. They turn their arm and he sees a darker spot looking closer at it he sees several diagonal strikes on it. An image on Kody’s right hand with a ring on the middle finger rushes through his mind and he looks at the freelancer almost in shock, they chuckle bitterly seeing understanding painted on his face. “Proof enough for you, sir?” 

He collects himself, “More than. Others will tell me a similar story?”

“Yes, and I’d prefer you don’t ask them - they’ve had enough.”

“Of course,” David starts feeling sorry.

The freelancer pulls the robe up and relaxes a bit. “Gavin,” they raise their voice, “stop standing there like a poor relative, come in.” 

A demon comes through the curtain and casts a sideways glance at the werewolf, settling down at the arm of the chair the freelancer sits in, they take his hand in theirs and look up at his with a small smile. “See, everything is resolved, mr” they turn to David, “oh, excuse my lack of manners, we might have skipped introductions,” they name themselves and their partner and after David  answers accordingly, the freelancer turns to the incubus again, “Mr Shaw doesn’t have any problems with us, only with Kody.” 

Gavin raises an eyebrow at the werewolf, “That’s right, we’ll have to deal with him in some appropriate manner.”

“Good. We should have called you ourselves, but we're a little busy - new in the business and all that," he finally lets his face depict a friendly expression. 

"Well, as I said - if you need anything security-wise, we're happy to help," David also raises the corners of his mouth just a bit. 

"We'll be sure to tell Lasko - he's the owner," the freelancer explains, exchanging an inexplicable look with the demon. 

Gavin stands up, "Let me show you out, sir."

"Of course, thank you. Good night," the werewolf nods and the freelancer returns the gesture. 

When they enter the main hall again, David hears Asher's laughter - of course, he couldn't pass on an opportunity to flirt with the fiery bartender.

Hdjdv. Been kinda…waffling with this cause I did have a fic where Sam was a stripper in Modern Day but…it wasn’t very well recieved so I deleted it to re-work it but then ultimately decided to scrap it all together,so I hope this is better since I have more skills in classic burlesque than stripping.

Tommy crossed his ankles in the velvet chair as his warm brown eyes never left the lit stage and the band setting up their instruments as the red curtain seemed to move with the suave beat. Earlier that day, he was given a free ticket to that night’s monthly burlesque show by Paulie, who claimed he had other matters to attend to.

Confused, Tom took the ticket and once back home, he agonized over what to wear as Sam stepped from the shower wrapped in a fluffy, white robe and slippers. “You look terrified. Is everything alright?” he asked worriedly and walked over to his boyfriend. “Hm? Oh. Well Paulie gave me this ticket to a burlesque show and..well, I’ve never been to one so trying to find what to wear is…a challenge.”

Sam’s frown slowly morphed into a coy smile and ran a single finger down Tommy’s chest as he nibbled his lower lip. “Anything you wear looks amazing on you. Your figure is just…” As he waxed poetics, Tom felt Sam’s hands slide downwards to his hips and grip them tightly as he kissed his cheek. “If you must know, the dress code is formal.” he added with a teasing wink before sashaying away to get dressed.

When Tom finally decided on an outfit, Sam was already gone with Paulie who ‘needed’ him to run a few errands with him, so he showered and shaved alone and got dressed. After he splashed on a bit of cologne Sam got him for Christmas and fixed his hair, he climbed into his car and drove to the Blue Tropics, heart thudding.

“Are you sure?” Paulie asked backstage as Sam did his makeup. “Yes. We’ve been dating for awhile now and it’s only fair to not keep something like this from him.” His best friend smiled and kissed his cheek. “Well either way, I’m here for you always.” Sam smiled and kissed Paulie’s cheek in return before he resumed his previous task at hand.

The main lights soon went down and the band started to play as a gorgeous woman in an elaborate purple outfit came on stage like a panther stalking it’s prey and started to sway her hips to the music, the audience’s attention solely focused on her,Tommy’s included as he sipped on his wine.

After her breathtaking routine, the woman slipped on a purple robe and tied it before taking the microphone. “Good evening ladies and gentlemen. My name is Lovely Luscious and I will be your MC for this evening and can I say we have a powerhouse lineup for you all. Now there are a few ground rules that will be followed by everyone, no exceptions.”

“First rule is we do not boo. These performers have put time and energy into these routines and costumes and it takes someone with strong fortitude to do what they do. Cheer, clap, stop your feet. That means we’re doing our jobs. Secondly, keep the hands above the tables please. I do not want the janitors to be cleaning up….your enthusiasm after the show. And thirdly, consent is sexy. Do not put your hands on the performer unless they let you since our girls travel around the room and we will give the same respect to you.”

“Well, we got the serious stuff out of the way, so I guess that means we can start the show. Now for our first performer, hailing from Empire Bay, she’s the queen of sass with a whole lot of ass. It’s Lady Vivianne!!” Tommy watched each performer and tipped accordingly as he clapped with the rest, genuinely enjoying himself. “Our last performer before intermission is a special one. She is a New Heaven native and actually got her start here on this very stage and now travels the world dazzling hearts everywhere. It is with great pride and pleasure to bring to the stage, my burlesque daughter, Sally DeTeese!”

Tom’s eyes widened when the most gorgeous woman he’s ever seen slinked from behind the curtain and the music suddenly turned into something more sensual and private, something meant to be hidden behind closed doors. As each article of clothing was removed and she moved closer, Tom felt a nagging feeling that he wasn’t too sure about. The woman slowly straddled his lap as she danced, slowly taking off her bra and gazed into Tommy’s eyes with a knowing smile. “Sa-“ Tom whispered as Sam bit his lip and leaned over to kiss his cheek before moving back to the stage to finish her routine.

Finally all of the pieces clicked in Tommy’s brain and he felt a surge of warmth flow through him as he realized that Sam essentially revealed who he truly was in such a vunerable setting. He tamped down the sudden jealousy at the rest of the audience seeing something so raw and personal and accepted another glass of wine.

The second half of the show was even more jaw dropping than the first and Tom whooped and clapped as Sam did an elaborate, yet alluring aerial act, eyes always being drawn back to him. By the end of the show, Sam made his way to Tommy and fiddled with his bag, dressed in his regular outfit. “You. You are absolutely wonderful. No matter who you are, I will accept you for you. That’s what I fell deeply in love with when we first met.” Tom murmured and tucked a strand of hair behind Sam’s ear as the man bit his lower lip.

Tommy pulled Sam closer and teased a few kisses to his neck and ear before he pressed their lips together in a fiery, yet sensual kiss, only pulling away to catch his breath. “Tommy….thank you. I didn’t know how you would react cause of…” Tom hushed Sam’s rambling with another quick kiss. “I understand, sugarbean.I’m blessed and honored to have not only seen true artistry but to see how you express yourself in ways words can’t. I love you so so much and I’ lm so proud of you.”

That night, Tommy slowly took Sam apart and learned a little bit more about his partner and about himself as well, and as Tom stroked Sam’s head on his sweaty chest, he felt truly complete.

“It’s gotten this late now, huh?” Seokjin says as he spies the time on the digital clock by the street corner. “Or is it early? Is it really 3AM already?”

“Oh.” Namjoon turns to where Seokjin is looking eyes going wide as he saw the time. “Oh, shit. I haven’t even notice. Sorry for keeping you, hyung! You must be—

“Hey, Namjoon-ah, would you like to get some coffee?” Seokjin turns to Namjoon smiling at the dumbstruck face of the younger. “I mean, I’d like to talk with you more but it’s getting colder and I kind of want to sit down and drink something warm. There’s a diner just down the street from here. We could also get breakfast since it’s, you know, technically morning already.”

“Oh my god, yes.” Namjoon breathes out relief coloring his tone. “I was actually debating whether I should ask you but I was, um, I didn’t think you’d—I mean, I’m glad you—I mean,” he sighs putting a hand over his face as he looks down. “Yeah. Yeah, coffee and breakfast sounds nice.”

His ears are reddening again and Seokjin resisted the urge to coo at him.

Alright. It's official. Kim Namjoon is cute.

“Wow.” Namjoon says as he surveys their table and the plates of food practically covering the whole. “You ordered a lot, hyung.”

“Yeah. I don’t look like it but I eat a lot.” Seokjin intercepts just as Namjoon is reaching for the tongs to start grilling the meat. “Go help yourself. Don’t worry. I’m paying.”

“What?” Namjoon frowns, freezes halfway on getting some kimchi instead after Seokjin commandeered the grill. “No. I’m paying.”

“I ordered more than half of the food. I’m paying.”

“It doesn’t matter. I invited you out, therefore, I’m paying.”

“Well, like I said, I ordered more than half of the food.” Seokjin adjusts the fire of the grill before reaching for some yukgaejang. “Also, I’m older. Therefore, I’m paying.”

“And like I said, I invited you out. Even if you are older, by rules of social conduct, the one who invites pays. Therefore, I’m paying.”

“There is no such thing as rules of social conduct! You just pulled that right out of your ass!”
