“Look, I just want to start out by telling you to keep calm, okay?” Tony wasn’t exactly sure how to broach this topic with Bruce, but he could tell as soon as the words left his mouth that he hadn’t chosen the right way.

“Don’t tell me to keep calm!”  Bruce’s voice hadn’t taken on those deeper notes yet. That was good. That was something. “Unless there’s something I should know? Is there a reason I wouldn’t be?”

“Well, I mean. I… I kind of have to go back in to see the doctor. The cardiologist. He said something popped up on the echo, and he needs another look.”

Bruce was silent for a long time. And if Tony knew him, he was running every single possibility through his mind.

“But it’s not bad? He just… doesn’t know?” Bruce asked.

“I mean, he wants to open me up and have a look. To be completely honest with you, I’m not entirely sure how that could turn out not bad. I mean. What’s the best case scenario? Their screen had a smudge on it?” Tony’s blood started rushing in his ears, and Bruce reached out to slip his arm around him.

His hand squeezed Tony’s shoulder before he spoke. “Maybe you should come to sit down. Do some deep breathing, calm you down, and we can research it further?”

Tony nodded, and Bruce quietly turned him around, walking towards the living room.

We have started Runaways. Stranger Things is on the list, as is ST:D. We are way behind of Mr Robot, because that’s the kind of thing i really have to be in the mood for, and i just ... haven’t, lately. I loved S1 of Dirk Gently, and S2 is definitely on the list.

“Are you science? Because I’ve got my ion you,” Tony read the interior of the card Bruce had taped to the top of his monitor. “How cheesy.”

Bruce smiled warmly. “Super cheesy.”

“Too bad you’re vegan, huh? Can’t partake of the cheese from whatever lovestruck buffoon sent you this.”

“I do alright,” Bruce replied.

“I can’t believe you kept that card,” Tony immediately followed, leaning down to press a soft kiss to Bruce’s temple.

“I can’t believe you sent it in the first place.” He turned and tugged Tony down for a deeper kiss. “Incredibly cheesy. Even for you.”

We’re really close friends, but everyone thinks we’re dating. There’s a betting pool and everything. I say we fake them all out and make a killing off our breakup.

Bruce was the one who came through.  

Tony chickened out at the last second, his lips inches from Bruce’s.  It was Banner who closed the distance and slipped his hand behind Tony’s head.  

Their lips touched and Sam Wilson whooped loudly, reaching for a stack of money from Bucky’s hand.  

Tony could still taste him there on his lips, and he locked eyes with Bruce later, blushing a little at the memory.  

They could apparently fake a relationship really well.  Now the real test would be faking a breakup.

T'challa smiled, shaking his head.  "I would not say that I am Tony's nemesis… but his opinion of me has certainly dropped since the incident in Siberia…"  

Laughing, Rhodey reached for his hand, threading his fingers through T'challa's and letting both hands drop onto his lap.  "I still don't think he'd be entirely cool with us being a thing."  

"Is that what we are?  A thing?'  T'challa chuckled. "Good, I was worried you were going to be vague about it or something."

Tony woke up with a raging headache.  And when he finally pried his eyes open, he saw he was still wearing his bartender uniform from the event he'd been hired for: white oxford, black tie, black pants.  Hell, his shoes were still on.  

And that's when he rolled over directly onto Bruce.  

Bruce.  Bruce was in his bed.  Holy shit.

Bruce grumbled in his sleep and rolled over, taking most of the blankets with him.  

Both of them were still dressed.

Bruce rolled his eyes.  “Drop it, Tony.  This is my honors class.  They aren’t there to launch watermelons on the football field.”  

“They might be honors, but they’re still kids.  And you’d be more popular if you launched watermelons.”  

“With who exactly?  The kids or you?”  

Tony didn’t answer, but he shot Bruce one of those grins that made him go weak in the knees.  

Not that he’d ever admit to it.  Not here, anyway.
