“ i’m not whining, ” alex insisted, giving maggie a joking glare before looking out the window once more. “ if you’re so sure i’ll love it why don’t- ” she stopped mid-sentence as maggie turned into the shelter’s parking lot. “ you want to adopt a dog? with me? ” alex looked from the building back to maggie, a smile lighting up her expression. “ maggie sawyer, i think you’re the best. ”

maggie paced. and paced. and paced and paced. she wasn’t sure she was so nervous, it made her feel sick. she pulled her jacket closed further around her, worried about how this would go down. it should go well, but it could go any way. when the door opened, maggie ran her hands on her jeans and put a smile on her face. “hey! i didn’t mean for you to rush home when i said i needed to talk to you, sorry. i didn’t take you away from something did i?”
