saying "excuse me." or anything similar after a burp has to genuinely be one of the most attractive things out there. i couldn't tell you what it is, but i'm such a sucker. imagine these with me, if you will:
imagine someone smug - a real rat bastard. they've just let out a rancid belch in the face of someone much fancier. they're laughing about it, telling them they should've seen their face or asking what it smelled like [they can already smell it themself - they're just fucking around]. the fancy person is mad and demands they excuse themself. as little as they want to, they do. maybe they say it in a mocking, exaggerated tone ["excuuuuuuuse me~!"], maybe they belch the words out, whether out loud or specifically in the face or ear of the fancy person. or maybe they don't even try - they just hit them with a sarcastic, half-assed "sorry." and move on.
imagine an introvert - a hermit. someone shy. they were forced to leave the comfort of their room and interact with guests. they spent their time drawing or texting friends near the snack table, and they don't realize how much they've eaten. when dinner comes, they indulge, but they've stuffed themself just a bit too much. they feel like they're set to explode - and in a sense, they sort of do. they burp and hiccup a lot - they're small and quiet, but very frequent. they're sitting there trying to muffle all of these to the best of their ability, until a particularly loud belch escapes their lips. they blush heavily, still hiccuping a bit, and mumble a weak little "mmh- 'scuse me... s-sorry...", wishing the ground would swallow them up.
imagine a person who doesn't show a lot of emotion. people call them stoic, emotionless. they're sitting with two other people - think a burp hater and a burp fan - quietly enjoying a meal while reading something. they're a bit invested in their book, so they're eating a bit quickly to be able to read it alone. they're still at it after they've finished their food, but they've unknowingly swallowed a lot of air because of the speed of which they were eating. they put a fist up to their mouth to attempt to stifle a burp, which comes out a bit longer than they anticipated - long enough for the others at the table to form a reaction. when it's over, they clear their throat and simply say "pardon me." without hesitation. one at the table shuns them for the action, the other praises the length. the one who burped doesn't understand the reactions, as they feel burping is a natural bodily function, but chooses not to question it, instead opting to continue relieving themself, excusing themself after each burp.
imagine someone friendly and playful - a sweetheart and a joker. they're from elsewhere, and speak two languages. they're taking a trip around town with some new friends, and they stop to get some food. it was nothing like what they've ever had before, and are in awe at what different cultures can create. they want to try as much as they can, so they stop at a few different places. everything is to their liking, and at the end of the day, they're satisfied with what they've had. they decide to be a little immature, just for a laugh, and they let out a belch, dragging it on as long as they could. in place of anything in english, their peers can instead expect to hear a giggly "ah, 'scusez moi!" and encouragement to do the same. their peers are just in a little bit of awe at the use of another language - to them, it's unique.
adorable~ ♡
