All right, this will be long, so here I shall insert a readmore cut.
Okay, my dear anon...the problem here is a matter of...definition. By ‘faithful’, I am sure what you actually mean is ‘monogamous’.
I could take the easy way out, and merely say that ‘things are different for the Fae’ and that we don’t consider it in the same way. But then I am sure you would come back with examples of Fae who ARE ‘faithful’ to each other, as you refer to it.
It has more to do with the way that I personally view sex. Which requires, unfortunately, a bit of...personal history.
When I was the mortal equivalent of a teenager, I fell in love with a man. He convinced me to run away with him, because my mother did not approve. For once I should have listened to her, though, because he’d been manipulating me. We ran away to the mortal world, where he took me straight to a brothel and sold me.
He’d been ever so careful not to ‘ruin the merchandise’, so to speak, which meant I got to lose my virginity in public on a stage, when the man who bought the right to fuck me first decided it would be more fun to make it a show for the other bidders.
Yeah, that was fun.
And for many years, it continued to be more of the same. As one would imagine, at first I fought, I tried to run, I resisted...but eventually you learn cooperating is more...comfortable than fighting. And as the years passed, I learned well, become very popular, and bought my way free.
When I made it back home...my mother had died, I had no place, no real skills I could use. Except...
So I set myself up in the very same...career I had just won my way free of. You would be surprised how cutthroat the pleasure business is in the Faerie world, so it took some time to claw my way to the top. Once again, I was doing things for customers I disliked, even hated, just because I had to.
One of the happiest days of my life was when I was popular enough I could start refusing certain customers. Now I have complete control over who I take on and for how much. In fact, I’m well enough off now I could retire completely and not have to worry about money for decades. I wouldn’t - I enjoy being able to help people, to please people...but it is nice to know that I could, should I decide to.
So, with this pathetic bit of history out in the light, what is the point I am coming to?
For me, sex is not...intimate. It is a...form of communication. A way to comfort people. A way to teach them.
I find pleasure in sex - I would be lying if I said anything otherwise. But I do not take pleasure from sex. It is a means to an end, or a way to say hello or goodbye, or a way to help someone or...
It means nothing to me, I don’t think about it that way. It’s not sacred, not important, in the way it is to so many people. It’s also not something I seek for my own desire, like a horny old goat wanting to add notches to his bed. It just...is.
Intimacy to me is...emotional, not physical. Faithfulness to me is committing your heart feelings to one person.
It’s the quiet in the morning when you watch the sunrise together, it’s spending time together without even having to talk, it’s wanting to get to know each other’s friends and family (and putting up with each other’s friends and family because you know they’re important to them). It’s letting them in, letting them know you love them care about them.

So no, anon, I will not be ‘faithful’ to Gale in the way that you meant.
I will be faithful to him in all the ways that matter to me, though.
