My habit of hurriedly and suddenly leaving an event at just the right amount of time to make the next bus…. Is probably rude now that I think about it.

But my brain gets nervous about public transit schedules.

And I never know how to properly say goodbye.

Here’s a three year old photo of me with my city at the time. I was at 13 sheets then. I’m on 34 now. Wow. Crazy to imagine how big this city is for real. Here were the bus routes at the time.

In the general discourse people talk about cars vs buses but there’s one article I remember that had an interesting idea, it was about letting private bus companies compete with the public bus company. This only applies in the context of Hawaii since the bus system is run by a government owned company and private companies aren’t allowed to do regular transportation like the public bus company does so as a result they ferry around tourists. This article came from a local think-tank but they mentioned that having private bus companies be allowed to compete with the public bus company would help increase public transportation and reduce traffic. Which is significant since the bus system here is well liked because of how shitty our traffic is. (There’s more that can be debated on it but that’s how it is here.) It’s an interesting take since this kind of thing doesn’t get mentioned on the national level whenever think pieces talk about cities so I thought it was interesting. The progressives would hate it since they want everything to be government owned.

Still, I’d prefer the bus over the shitty rail system they’re building.

I honestly hate southern Ontario.

So I live in Hamilton. My parents still live in Guelph. Between the two places, it's a 30-45 minute drive depending on traffic. But I don't have a car, so I have to take the bus. Do you want to know how long the bus ride between the two places is?

3 HOURS!

All of Ontario operates on a kinda spoke thing, where all the buses come out of Toronto. Useful if you live in Toronto or want to get to Toronto but if you want to go between two cities that are equidistance from Toronto there is no direct bus, meaning you have to go all the way up to square one and back.

I hate this so much. Like, there are enough people wanting to go between Hamilton and Guelph to warrant a bus. It might not run that often, but like one in the morning one at night would be enough. But no. We can't have a bus because we are not Toronto.

I hate it.
