✍️How to Improve Your Sales Skills, Even If You’re Not a Salesperson Despite the outdated negative views on ‘selling’, sales skills hold great value at any point in one’s career, as it enables people to influence another party’s ideas and decisions. 👍If you look at things you do over the course of your day, from internal meetings with colleagues to clients calls, almost all of your interactions involve some form of selling. 👉Reflect. Selling can also be understood as persuading and inspiring others. Reflect on what selling represents for you. Try to think back at previous sales interactions you had and what made them successful. 👉Put yourself in someone else’s shoes. Get to know the buyer. What do they need and why? This will give you clear ideas on how to approach the buyer and show your sincere support. 👉Plan and practice. Plan ahead and practice with people who are new to what you are selling. This will reveal the faults of your pitch and help you adjust it in such a way that it is easy to grasp by all. 👉Stay calm. Relax your body, face and voice and avoid a lecturing tone. Focus on promoting what the buyer needs or wants, not what you can do or how great you are. 👉Close the deal. After the pitch, probe where the buyer stands by offering support for the next steps of the decision-making process. 👉Think long term. Failure will come more often than success. Continue to push forward despite failure. Follow up on an unsuccessful pitch a few months later to see if anything has changed.
