Abandoned since the early 1950s, the North Shore Branch ROW on Staten Island most recently was proposed to be reactivated as a bus rapid transit corridor, speeding up many bus routes throughout the island as they route towards St. George. Much of the ROW has receded into the harbor or become reforested, but the viaduct section (built as part of a costly grade crossing elimination project) remains mostly intact. The westernmost section is active today as a freight railroad transporting residential waste to the mainland. Trains travel across the Arthur Kill Vertical Lift Bridge (the only rail connection from SI). We’re becoming a scent free world. The rapid transit bus I was on delayed about 5 minutes while the driver walked up and downed the aisles asking who’s wearing scented cream no one fessed up. He proceeded to open all the windows and doors to air out the bus. To be honest it was a strong cheap scent and obviously affected the driver. Do yourselves a favour wear scent free product.
