If you’ve been a long-time follower, you know how I feel about balancing the financial and football sides of club management. You know I’m HYPER critical of signing unjustifiably expensive players who will do little to move the club forward or maintain success. You know I’ve been ringing the alarm bells about Barca and United’s financial situation for years. This is why. I was wondering about how they’re still signing and registering players, like Rashford. Behold… I didn’t believe we’d signed Rolfo until I saw this and looked into it. It’s worse than I thought.

Meanwhile, Madrid is TOASTING Barca at the Nou Camp! I’ll take it. 😂😂🙌🏾🤍

I’m going to be following Xavi’s career very closely during his time at Barcelona. And here’s the first thing I’m looking for: his ability to get the team playing the way he wants quickly. I heard he did quite well in that department at Al Sadd — they went unbeaten and won the league last season — interesting to see how he does now that’s he stepped a few levels up. He’s taking over a club in WAY more disarray than United after Sir Alex so if he can turn this ship around it’ll definitely be one of the greatest managerial feats I’ve seen in my lifetime.

I’m absolutely intrigued by the teams that could find themselves out of Champions League and in the Europa League or just out of Europe already:

- Barcelona

- Borussia Dortmund

- FC Porto

- Atletico Madrid

- AC Milan

- Atalanta

Dortmund is practically out of Europe because they’d need to win at least 7-0 in their next match to get into EL. They’d need Ajax to demolish Sporting again to stay in CL; it’s possible, but we know they just cannot defend.🤦🏾‍♂️

Insight:

How did I know in 2013 that it would be years, possibly a decade or more, before United would win the league again? Simple: I saw it happen at AC Milan. Diminishing recruitment quality, a successful manager leaving with no clear/strong choice for a successor, poor managerial appointments, significant spending that didn’t manifest in the form of convincing football, top players wanting out, a board more interested in making money than building a quality team to sustain success, reckless spending on transfers and contracts after new owners came in, growing debt. (See synonym: Busted Barca) I mean it was inevitable. 🧐

So Neymar came to Barcelona, then left Barcelona to get out of Messi’s shadow and be the main man. Now Messi’s gone to PSG and Neymar can’t leave any time soon…ya, this’ll be fun, what could go wrong? Stuck between two hot topics in Messi and Mbappé. I foresee another pre-round of 16 injury vacation. 😂

Me looking for that person online who insisted a couple of years ago that Barca’s finances were fine and they were still a well-oiled machine that could just get any player they wanted. Clearly the ability to actually afford them (or even register them to play) was irrelevant. 😂

I’ll be honest, I’ll lose a little respect for De Jong if after all that “I’m happy where I am, I’m not leaving” drama he ends up going to City just to help Barca get Bernardo Silva. 😬
