Picked up the new installment in Shovels & Rope’s cover-song series the other day, and it is typically amazing, featuring the alt-country duo’s versions of songs by Concrete Blonde, The Breeders, and the Clash, among others. Shovels & Rope does something with their covers that very few artists do: they make you hear the song for the first time. That is a supernatural talent.

Shovels & Rope & Friends...Busted Jukebox Vol 1

My Friday began with a surprisingly nice start when I woke up to an email that Shovels & Rope had a new album out.  Had I known, I would have been anticipating this for months but now there is no wait, just amazing new music from a close-knit group of great, diverse artists (Butch Walker, Shakey Graves, JD McPherson, Milk Carton Kids, Lucius and more) singing amazing old songs.  It's just so fun to listen to!
