the thing about sherlock holmes adaptations is that we are always saying in response, "sherlock holmes isn't like THAT, hes like THIS" & of course we have lots of textual evidence from the acd canon to back us up. but I think the main problem with both of these points is that, you can find textual evidence to support A LOT of different interpretations of holmes. that man contains multitudes. maybe partly bc acd forgor what he was doing so often, but holmes is described as being extremely variable in his moods & attitudes. so holmes can be quippy & sassy but also morose & melancholy. he can be restless & hyperactive but also at times languid & lazy. he is very knowledgeable but also super ignorant. he can be cold & unsympathetic but he can also be thoughtful & extremely caring. the REAL problem we should be complaining about is, not enough holmes adaptations express just how many things he is. he can be ALL those things..to me...
