The show hasn’t even started filming yet and I’m seeing all sorts of fuckery on Tumblr about it. I decided to make my own post instead of shitting on someone else’s thread/thoughts.
First off, television shows are always going to be bringing in new young fresh faces. That’s just how entertainment works. So to shit on a young woman before even seeing her on the screen (or seeing her in another show) is sexist as hell. Shitting on young 20 somethings is also incredibly hypocritical of anyone in fandom considering we all fawned over baby-Jared when Supernatural started (or on Gilmore Girls when he was a teenager). Get out of here with that shit.
Secondly, I have it on GREATLY AWESOME AUTHORITY (read: the horse’s mouth) on what this show will be focused on, at least the first season. I cannot say more because that information was provided during a private meet and greet. But if y’all are going to be pissy about “PC bullshit” or “politics”, you are probably NOT going to like this show. At all. This shit is going to hit some heavy and hard topics and say some things about those topics y’all probably won’t like.
Lastly, if you’ve ever had a problem with “PC bullshit” in any media at all, I’m afraid to inform you that political correctness and any sort of wokeness or political commentary has been prolific in entertainment media for decades. Comic books were and still are a huge platform for equality and equity for marginalized people (not to say they aren’t also incredibly problematic, too). This isn’t new, this isn’t some terrible tearing down of your entertainment because you can’t write or show shitty behavior anymore. Stories still and absolutely must portray the trials of marginalized people, but it has to punch up. It has to hold people accountable for perpetuating systems of prejudice/subjugation/marginalization that are depicted in these stories. Books, theatre, television, and movies are all vehicles to make that commentary in an effective way (not all the time, it often and regularly fails spectacularly).
If anyone wants to have a longer conversation about this I’m absolutely willing. Message me, DM me, send me an Ask. I don’t think I want to have a reblog conversation, but I may respond to simple questions here as well.
Also, let’s give the show a shot before we make any judgment calls? Please? For Jared, at least.
me when people act like they can’t understand how people find jared padalecki attractive and only jensen does it for them
The only person preventing me from completely identifying as a lesbian is Jared fucking Padalecki and every time I see a picture of him I feel like I could DIE HE’S STUNNING
I’m actually packing my suitcase for JIB Con right now like
it’s real
this is actually going to happen
I’m going to meet Jared in 3 1/2 dAYS
yes another icon bUT JARED THOUGH! ♥(ˆ⌣ˆԅ)
