i saw a really amateur production of follies in charlottesville last weekend but i think the interesting thing is that the women’s clumsy performances kind made me read the show in a novel way... the nonprofessional singing showed a version of the aging follies girls whose voices have suffered over the years since their fame on the stage. like the present day mediocrity of the song & dance numbers emphasized the nostolgia psychosis that they were stuck in... the good times they remember were actually not that glamorous
