when a solar eclipse happens there's a high tide which follows the path of the eclipse.
water is shown throughout the show as a place of healing: akk's childhood home near the ocean, the conversation where aye first comforts akk, then again when akk comforts aye, all of thuakan's kisses, the pool where akk and aye hang out and talk so often. (the underwater kiss!!)
if akk (and suppalo) is the sun, and aye the moon, eclipsing. then aye is also the one with the connection to, and control of the tides. he's a person that can bring the ocean with him. the high tide follow the path of the eclipse.
akk says in the beginning of the show "The life of a small-town boy is so carefree that I sometimes wish I could stop time. I don't want to grow up." it's a sentiment which expresses a desire to stay in the safety of the calm ocean that surrounds him, to not face the changing tide, or the difficulties of the land.
but aye is that very change. he washes over akk, and they both come out different people. water never stays still forever, but aye shows that tides and waves can be protective, can be a safety of their own, that growing up doesn't have to entirely be a process of suffering.
the show starts with akk lying alone in the middle of a calm ocean. and it ends the same. but this time aye is beside him. he knows how to brave the high tides, can live with the changes of the world and can even enjoy them, in the form of aye.
