I don't really think femmes are that loved by everyone.. they're only loved when they're "comfortable" to look at.
Some of them are visibly queer, and that isn't bad at all! It is so refreshing to see people that express their queerness in this ultra conservative right wing neo nazi zionist hitler 2.0 year (), but sadly it leaves you in a vulnerable position when you're in the wrong place aka surrounded by cistraight people.
My thoughts are that, people don't grasp the thought of a gender non conforming lesbian femme because the first thing that comes to mind when you think about a femme is a white, skinny cis girl that dresses slightly extravagant and has juuuust enough armpit hair to don't make you feel uncomfortable. I don't believe that being that white cis lesbian is inherently wrong, I believe that if that's the only person you would consider the standard femme lesbian then you should ask yourself if you truly know what the femme identity is about.
I've talked a lot on my blog about how non hegemonic femmes should get more recognition and visibility specifically on butchfemme communities, and how although people love to claim they support and adore and worship the ground we femmes walk, do they actually demonstrate it once that femme isn't conventionally attractive?
It seems that, femmes are just meant to be protected when they're what I like to call "white pretty"— when they're flawless dolls that look hot even when they're mad.
Oh, you got pushed to the ground by an asshole, princess? Do not fret! Cause there are ten queers in about one mile away willing to carry you back to your feet! Oh.. you're not white.. or skinny.. or cis.. uh, this is awkward isn't it? Maybe three of them will offer a hand. And. Then leave.
I feel like we're heterofying something just so queer that it deeply hurts me as a femme. What are we doing that, even among queer people, we get to pick and choose who deserves a hand offered just for the sake of not being perceived as rude and who deserves being protected, taken care of and carried back to their feet expecting nothing but a thanks in return?
"This is not the oppression Olympics, every queer person has it difficult already" and I agree with that, I'm not implying that white cis skinny femmes don't face lesbophobia or don't get frowned upon, I'm directly telling you that a poc, plus sized, trans lesbian femme won't receive the same visibility or support when they face the same kind of discrimination.
All femmes deserve love and protection. Weren't they the ones to yell back at cops when they started harassing butches, mascs and any other gnc lesbians? Weren't they the ones to spend hours being breadwinners because their partners were denied jobs just because they were butches? I don't think anyone owes they anything. The only thing I ask for when people reach out to femmes, is acknowledge their existence and speak up when they're in the same danger other queers were back then. Not because a femme is pretty, not because you might get something in return, do it because they're as human as you are.
