Endless Echos
Giggles bounce off the trees as small children made their way further away from the small town. Their smiles widening at the thought of who was waiting for them at the heart of the forest. Only to have such smiles met with a cheerful grin and opened arms that would give them shivers down their spins when held tightly. Such a tradition was past on from generation to generation and stories were told nightly of the shared beloved imaginary friend.
However, this being of the forest was growing weary of such traditions and stories. He knew best that at the end of the day the children would grow and yet again he would be left without a forever friend of his own. He yearned to have a companion that would last as long as he would that he could tell his own stories to. Such desires were becoming less hopeful as each generation moved on but his connection to the mortal realm remained as strong as ever.
Today was a day just like any other. The children sat at his feet as he sang them a song from his time. Some children started to doze off while the older children sang along.
