The recursive nature of goals
The recursive nature of goals
There are goals and then there are goals. There are the larger, universal goals of a happier,, more generally successful life, and there are the smaller, more concrete goals contrived to mark the way to the larger goals such as mow the lawn, or eat healthier or put on pants. At what point does pursuing a goal become the goal, rather than the means to achieve a larger goal?
Maybe at the point…

Dialogue with Aizen on the Ending of Umineko
Oh, a rare visitor! A chair perhaps? Or maybe a long white couch? I have plenty of these in my drawing room. Ah, it seems that you are unable to speak. Shall I take the gag off you? I raise a single finger towards the sky. Shush. God is speaking now. The black which wraps you looks great on you *snicker*. It certainly brings you down to Earth. Or Soul Society. Don’t be cross now, we all know Kisuke is a Quincy, there’s no need to hide it. Oh, since when did I know? I don’t know? Since the very beginning perhaps. A burrito? A siesta for you? No? I quite like the pale moon. It is only in the long pale full moon that I can see my reflection. Long have I longed to see someone else in that moon, and now I see with both eyes open. Can you see it? No, you cannot. Not yet. Your blade is too dense, too dark, too intense. Perhaps if you split it in two? Yes of course, I knew you would do that. It has all been foretold. By the way, have you seen that crying bastard and the quiet wolf lately? It seems like a long time. The new characters are boring, but Bambi is love. But Bambi is dead and I am bored. Again. Oh, it seems that a door is opening in the infinite possibilities. I wonder who it is. Yahweh? Is that your name? Well, you don’t seem like much of a prophet to me. I am a God, I can tell. No thank you, tell your pretty boy butler to fetch me a glass of ORANGE JUICE. Hm. Did I say Orange Juice? I meant sake. Or coffee. Or maybe all three. Now, now, get to it, the scales are tipping in my favour.
Oh the ending of Umineko you say? That was the whole point of inviting me to the party? Hmm, a good illusion, but not perfect. Since when were you under the illusion that the illusions were not illusions themselves?
I am a God. From the very beginning, nobody was standing in the heavens.
