This idea popped into my head cause my MC OC for KOM is into cosplay. I CAN'T DRAW FAST BUT I CAN WRITE DUMP–
[Name], or rather, you, have always been into cosplay. However, when the tribulations of adulthood came rearing its head, you're forced to say goodbye to the wonders that are anime conventions.
The thought was pushed to the back of your mind when job hunting became a priority. Thus, when you were on break during your little guard shift, in the office, in the Kingdom of Marionettes, you had made the unintentional blunder of scrolling through your favourite social media and being slapped in the face by posts after posts of people enjoying themselves in an anime convention. Cosplay pics; cute merch; fan performances; everything of which you had to give up to scavenge as much money as possible for rent and food.
How nice, you thought to yourself as a tear slipped down your cheek. Maybe one day I'll get to try out cosplay and go to a convention again, but for now ... for now, sayonara, my anime conventions!
"Your Majesty?!"
You jumped. With a smile but your (dramatic) tears still flowing, you awkwardly to Jestyn. "Oh, hey Jestyn. What's—"
He only took three strides to reach you and cupped your face. "Your Majesty, pray tell what is wrong? Art thou hurt somewhere?"
You held his hands, unable to shake your head. "No no no no. That's not it. I was just reminiscing."
"Reminiscing? So a bad memory?" His eyes darkened. "Was it a fool who wronged you still?"
One part of you wanted to answer that question honestly; that yes, indeed, there were many that wronged you, but you've done thought nothing of them now at this point. Maybe except for the ones who got you into debt.
"No, no. When I say reminiscing, I was moreso reflecting." You managed to pry his hand away and looked down at your phone. You tilted the screen slightly to Jestyn, who leaned over to take a closer look. "See this? I was mourning over my abstinence on cosplay and conventions."
Jestyn tilted his head. "I understand the term conventions, as it seems these humans are all in gathering, but what is cosplay?"
Ah, right, I forgot he probably doesn't know much slang. You sweatdropped. "Cosplay is just short for costume play."
"Oh! So these humans in their garbs, horns, and refined pieces are all in costumes and playing a role?"
"Not necessarily playing a role, but the reason they do dress in these costumes is an homage to characters of their favourite anime—er, I mean, plays!"
"Interesting. How interesting." Jestyn hummed. He leaned a little too close to your face, while his hand reached out to your hand that was holding your phone. Fingers brushing; his cheeks reddening ever a tad: he continued, "Say, Your Majesty, judging from what you told me before, I can assume you were a frequent participant in this sort of gathering?"
You nodded. "Yeah. I really like to cosplay and visit cons, meeting other cosplayers and all. But transport, food, and cosplaying can get costly."
"I see ... Then if it will please you, would you like for me and the other puppets to hold a 'convention' for you, Your Majesty? We should still have a variety of costumes to choose from."
You laughed softly. "That's sweet of you Jestyn—"
His smile widened.
"—but it's fine. I do like the idea though, maybe some day soon we can hold a sort of costume party. Maybe masquerades? Fitting, won't it?"
"Ah, masquerades! Yes, that would surely be a most fitting and wonderful party for this kingdom. Should I prepare you a beautiful garment for you, Your Majesty?"
"If it's something like a dress, no thanks." Just then, a memory struck you. You brought your phone slightly closer to your face (which caused your hand to be out of Jestyn's hold much to his dismay), you clicked onto your gallery app. You found what you wanted: a picture of yourself with a bit of makeup dressed in a butler's outfit. With one look, you smiled to yourself, taking in the memory, before you remembered you wanted to show the picture to Jestyn.
"I usually like to cosplay like this, Jestyn," you explained, not noticing how his joints stiffened. "Times like this is only when I wear makeup. What do you think? Do I look cool?"
He didn't answer.
"Jestyn?"
He just stared at the pic.
"Uhh, Jestyn?"
"May I ask thee a question, Your Majesty?"
"Oh, uh, sure."
"Do these 'cosplay conventions' encourage for two people to come together?"
"You mean ... like a duo or a couple? Yeah. Sometimes I see couples doing couple cosplays. Ooh, this gives me an idea! I'll ask Butley if he wants to match with me. You know what, I'm gonna call for him — Jestyn, where are you going?"
"To Butley, Your Majesty."
"Oh, are you going to call him for me?"
"Not quite." Jestyn merely gave you a smile then continued out of the door.
(Later, when your shift was about to end, Butley informed you he couldn't find his spare uniform.)
