She’s been more than careful about avoiding familiar faces since her first day back: she’s been matchlessly vigilant, for she know it took only one distraction for her mouth to betray her seemingly collected composure. Fortunately, she had her work to keep her busy but by the time she’s realized it, the bar’s clientele had slowed down until it eventually came to a stop. Seth had helped clean until there was not much left to do, getting the okay from his dad for one of them to go home. Leighton had stayed behind, she could use the hours and the distraction, anyway. She was leaning on the counter, scribbling in her notebook when she heard the door open, signaling that she had a long awaited customer. The lights flashing across their face in a way that made them look more of a stranger than ever, and for some reason it made her stomach drop like she was leveling off the bottom of a roller-coaster: a sadness starting to flood her yet she managed to shake that off as she walked up to their direction. There would be no cowardice today. Tomorrow, however, she couldn’t say. “There’s an old unwritten bar rule that the last customer has to help clean up and close up. Just a heads up.”
