Seth had helped clean until there was not much left to do, getting the okay from his dad for one of them to go home. Leighton had stayed behind, she could use the hours and the distraction, anyway. She was leaning on the counter, scribbling in her notebook when she heard the door open, signaling that she had a long awaited customer. The lights flashing across their face in a way that made them look more of a stranger than ever, and for some reason it made her stomach drop like she was leveling off the bottom of a roller-coaster: a sadness starting to flood her yet she managed to shake that off as she walked up to their direction. There would be no cowardice today. Tomorrow, however, she couldn’t say. “There’s an old unwritten bar rule that the last customer has to help clean up and close up. Just a heads up.”

Jude had never been patient before. He had never been prone to extra, unneeded movement, but there had never been anything still about the man as his eyes darted around and his fingers, more often than not, seemed to be tapping out a rhythm to something only he could hear. There had been a joke, likely never one he was meant to hear, that it was the last few remaining bits of morality making a mad escape from his body before they were wiped out by everything else in him. 

He still wasn’t patient, and waiting for one of his travelling companions to make an appearance was starting to slowly drive him up the wall. Just before the tension that had coiled and wound its way along his spine burst through his mouth, Jude caught sight of a figure approaching him from the corner of his eye, and he turned to face it. They were familiar, in the way former elementary school classmates are when you meet them again in college. The scowl that crossed Jude’s face burned itself into existence. “About time. What took you so long, got lost trying to find your head, as loosely attached as it is?”

Once, there would have been a time when Jude Pieris was a soul that Leighton might have called a friend. She would have taken in his words and turned a blind eye too their malice, mistaking it all instead as something else. A part of his inherent nature, perhaps. But the time for that had passed, and she was no longer the kind of person to do that. “Sorry, got you mixed up with another asshole with a bad haircut. I appreciate the concern though,” her gentle smile met her eye; the visage of deception.

She ran her eyes over his form, taking him in from head to toe. Pulling her purse and suitcase close to her, she crossed her arms over her chest, not entirely certain what it was she was looking for. A chance at gaining his attention? Maybe it was nothing at all. Maybe like simply called to like: two bitter people trapped in a shit-hole of a situation.

» former fling!! someone that unexpectedly caught leighton’s eye. they were never close in high school, and their fling probably started as a drunken hook-up. whether or not they had feelings is up for discussion. 

» flirtationship!! these two just banter back and forth with some flirty comments here and there. it’s mostly a super light and fun relationship for the two of them where they keep to themselves about the heavier shit. it makes for a little break from the rest of the world when it feels a little too intense. 

» enemy!! someone that saw leighton and nathlia having a heated argument that night in the woods. they think they connected the dots (whether they also knew of leighton’s crush on nathlia or not is up to you!) and are using whatever little piece of knowledge they have to blackmail/manipulate her. in a “i know what you did last summer” way but do they really...

» exes!! they brought a side of leighton she’s not proud of, but that didn’t stop her from coming back for more. she’s quite blind in that sense tbh. your character might have been aware of this and used it against her, or was totally innocent of their effect on her. prom date maybe?? the reasons behind their break up is up for discussion.

» best friends/friends!! the one constant leighton can count on at all times is your character, who stays unwaveringly by her side no matter what the circumstances are. even while both their realities shatter around them, their bond stays as strong as ever, even though it might seem that lately leighton’s been too distant to acknowledge it.
