How much is a real ruby stone?
Ruby, often called Manik, is a rare Corundum gemstone that is naturally deep pink or blood-red in colour. Vedic astrology recommends rubies for prosperity and expansion in businesses, jobs, social status, authority, and self-confidence.
The price of rubies varies substantially even within the same type due to a variety of quality characteristics. The origin, colour, clarity, and rarity of a ruby all influence its price. Ruby stones in India can cost anything from 450 to 2 lakhs ($12 to $1,600) per carat, or even more. Indeed, a cheaper Ruby would most probably be a fake.
The price of a ruby is directly proportional to its colour. Dark red or pigeon blood rubies are the most valuable and attract high prices. The price per carat of rubies decreases as we proceed from deep red rubies to dazzling red rubies, pink rubies, and purple rubies.
Because rubies are so valuable, profiteering is a possibility. Low-quality rubies are typically coloured or heat changed for large margins. A genuine ruby is usually more expensive than a synthetic ruby or a ruby that has been filled with glass (depending on the provenance).
Clarity is determined by the brightness and volume of inclusions in a ruby gemstone. In a natural ruby gemstone, inclusions are nearly always visible or invisible. Hidden inclusion rubies are scarce and, therefore, quite costly. The price per carat for such a natural, inclusion-free ruby will be exceedingly high.
A flawless natural ruby gemstone weighing more than a few carats, even more so than diamonds, is extremely rare. As a result, the price per carat of a Ruby stone increases dramatically when moving from a one-carat ruby to a three- or four-carat ruby.
The way a ruby is cut can increase the price by 10% to 20%. A faceted cut ruby's brilliance is enhanced, yet there is a significant stone waste. For the exact grade, a faceted ruby is more expensive than a ruby cabochon.
Burmese ruby is the most expensive ruby origin due to its excellent colour quality. In today's market, African rubies, on the other hand, attract a high ruby rate. Burma rubies range in price from 80K to 1lac per carat, whereas Mozambique rubies range from 50K to 80K per carat. Visit Gem Selections for more information.
