That time we were named NME Magazine's buzz band of the week.
Sunfower Bean
This trio from New York are one of the most exciting buzz bands in the world at this moment. Their sound echoes influences of Tame Impala and Sonic Youth whilst brining an eclectic mix of grunge, psych and shoegaze sounds. Julia Cumming’s mix of dreamy and ravaged vocals make them extremely unpredictable, with a background of lush yet harsh repetitive guitar riffs. Debut single ‘I Hear Voices’ is a definite banger, with vocals alternating between Cumming and guitarist Nick Kivlen, that is impossible to get out of your head. The B-side, ‘The Stalker’, is a heavier track that uses massive beats to steadily thump its way along whilst keeping a dreamy feel to it. The sheer gravity of this single makes it feel as if Sunflower Bean have been around for years - and they certainly have the potential to be around for a hell of a lot longer. This is such a great song from Philly based band The Districts. It's a really raw and honest track. The Districts have been touring around a lot recently including supporting Temples on part of their tour. Check out their schedule and see if you can catch them any time soon, they're amazing live :)
