What is one thing you wish people understood about you?
I don’t know. I mean, this is a hard one. Maybe that I value privacy and being an adult. I mean, I don’t want to be looped into being seen as a child star for the rest of my life. I want people to see me as someone who evolved into an adult actress. I want to be taken seriously professionally. I also want people to know that just because I like being mature, I can have fun. I just like to have it on my terms.
What would your next dream role be now that you have more time to work on different projects?
I want to do something fun where I can show my strengths but maybe have a bit of a cult following. There might already be something in the works but my lips are sealed. You’ll be the first ones to know when I can say something though.
How hard was it to keep the fact that you weren't going to return to Reign a secret?
It was nearly impossible. You have no idea how many times I wanted to tell people but I think I did a good job of keeping people guessing about how much I was going to be in the next season. It was a very mutual ending for the show. I feel as if Lola may have deserved a better end but at least she is back with her one real friend so that counts for something. It is unfortunate for her son though that he must grow up without his mother or father.
Have you lost any friendships over the course of a year you've been in town?
I think that as humans it is natural to evolve and grow. Sometimes, you grow in different directions and that is okay. I can definitely say there are some people that I choose to spend last time around than I did a year ago. I don’t have ill will or anything, I think I’m just trying to focus on what feels good and right to me.
There are also some people that I’ve simply lost touch with by being busy or by being in town who don’t leave here. It’s sad. But distance will do that to you.
What has been the hardest part about being a mother so far?
Right now, I would say adjusting to not getting a lot of sleep. I am literally always exhausted. He’s starting to get better at sleeping through the night but the days are long and the feedings do take their toil. I’m lucky to have a good support team though in Bradley. I know that it will always be hard just it will evolve and the hard things will change as Benjamin grows. It’s definitely what I signed on for and I’m not complaining.
Do you sometimes wish that your life didn't revolve so much around Benjamin and Bradley? Or are you happy with settling down?
Never.
I would not change my life for anything or anyone. My career is important but it is nothing without people and Bradley is the love of my life. I feel blessed having him to wake up with every single day. I always knew that I wanted to be a mother. I knew that I wanted to be a wife.
I do have a life outside of them but they are an important part of my life and I am completely and utter unapologetic about that.
