he felt more defeated than he ever had in his entire career—–no, in his entire life . first, it was the excruciating loss in the best of the super juniors tournament. he didn’t even make the finals for his block and as the iwgp junior heavyweight champion, he felt like he let everyone down. day in and day out he proclaimed that he was the face of the juinor heavyweights, that he was the best junior heavyweight in the world. now that he was without the trophy from the tournament and without the junior heavyweight championship it felt like he’d lived in a fantasy fairytale land and that everything he thought he knew was just bullshit. it took him what seemed like forever to even pull himself up off the mat after hiromu won and took the title that meant more to him than anything he’d done in his career before.
the bed felt cold and empty until he could feel her crawl in behind him. will laid on his side facing away from her, clutching the sheets as though he needed something, anything , to keep him grounded. there was a slight twitch at the ice pack pressed against the base of his neck. she was his safe place , the place he always wanted to come to when he felt this shitty. surprisingly, after he told her he tried, after she told him she knew, her arm draped across his waist, pulling him close to her. he tried to hide the pain he was in both mentally and physically, but it was plain as day that she knew him better than that.
a sigh of relief left slightly parted lips while he allowed his body to fall back into hers. there was a moment where it felt like the cliché saying that time froze around them, but it felt like it did. he could have laid there all day, but the storm of thoughts in his head telling him he was a failure wouldn’t allow peace. slowly but surely , will forced his aching body to turn and face her, his arm now around her waist pulling her into him. blue eyes scanned hers for a moment before a few soft tears rolled down his cheeks. all of this pain and regret, the questioning he did about himself and what he was actually capable of wouldn’t stop; he felt weak.
will moved his hand from around her waist to cup her soft skinned cheek and jawline, while he tried not to let anymore tears fall. he swallowed hard before he leaned in, lips quivering. the kiss he laid on her lips was one of need. it wasn’t rough at all, though, it was just that he needed her in this moment. but when he forced the most gentle kiss to part, his eyes fell heavy. “ you are th’ only fing tha’ can make me not feel like a total failure. like through all of this, you’ve never lost faith in me. i don’t know if you knew tha’ but it’s true. and tha’ kiss might not’ve been right, but god damn did it feel like it was, ” his explanation was accompanied by a faltering voice, but it was filled with nothing but admiration and adoration for the woman before him.
