i would love to know exactly what zekrom’s deal was with zapping pikachu and stuff but ultimately that’s something that was probably apart of the original bw plot, so it’s going to be a mystery forever. however it’s worth noting that zekrom stops zapping pikachu the second time (when he gets his electric-type moves back) as soon as ash grabs for him. so like. maybe it’s one of those instances of a legendary pokémon trying to test the bond between humans and pokémon?
also for some reason the captions for both episodes occasionally had discrepancies between what was said and what the captions said? at first i thought it was just an oddity but it actually seems that the captions were drawing on an earlier version of the script that was a slightly more direct translation (b/c one of the differences was a change of dialog for prof oak that the bulbapedia trivia section for the episode pointed out & the captions saying that iris said ‘kanoko town’ when refering to nuvema town)
for some reason the very brief scene of ash at home is very iconic to me. in general i think the very small glimpses we get of his home life are interesting since he barely ever spends any time at home
They didn’t have to make Swanna sound like that
Alright, initial thoughts less than thirty seconds in:
I actually like the animation for Pokémon! It’s crisp, it’s deeply saturated, it’s somehow still... not hard? But not soft. Has weight I guess.
The only bad part is because everything is so saturated sometimes there’s no focus. Like with the opening scene showing Delia’s house, there’s like.... no real distinction between the foreground the midgeound and the background. So like the color use is good but except for the fact he House is the only thing that’s white there’s no real other distinction? Idk. Not enough contrast. But overall I like it a lot. It’s look cute as a postcard tbh.
In the Shadow of Zekrom
They managed to actually work the title into the lyrics this time. Nice.
So anime Unova is actually pretty far from Kanto. Like, overseas flight far. I was afraid it was gonna be, like, right next door.
(Side note: has Ash ever been on a plane before? Just curious.)
Of course, having Unova speak a different language would unnecessarily complicate things. Still...
That Trip sure is a smug little shit. Snivy was a good choice.
